Is passport retained after K-1 is approved? (Cd. Juarez Process)

My fiance's wallet was stolen. In it he had all his IDs except his passport which is his only form of identification he has to board the airplane back from Ciudad Juarez after his interview (he is leaving tomorrow to Cd. Juarez). Our question for the people whose K-1 visa has been recently approved by the Ciudad Juarez Consulate is: Do you get your passport back after approval or is it retained and sent back with the package?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

The consulate keeps the passport in order to put the visa in it if approved, and then sent to the beneficiary...... Visas are not issued same day as approval.

Does he have copies of his other ID's that were in the wallet?

He does have copies of his IDs... we don't know if the airline will accept copies of his IDs.

If your passport is retained and sent back in a package you aren't supposed to open, how do you board an international flight to your POE (you must present a passport at the airport's conter)?

There is a pocket within a pocket. Slit the bottom of the passport pocket with a razor blade and with two fingers reach inside and retrieve the passport. Easy peasy.

If your passport is retained and sent back in a package to beneficiary, that package is for US Customs yes only in USA, and the seal must not be broken on it,,,,,,, , BUT inside that packet does not include your passport, that is loose in the mailing packet , for ID and boarding flights as needed.

DHL handles the visa packets from the consulate. The passport, with visa affixed inside will not be inside the sealed elvelope you are not allowed to open. It will just be inside the overall outer DHL package wrapping/envelope.

It takes DHL about 3-7 days to deliver the visa package. He needs to see if he can get a same day replacement ID somewhere in Juarez. He should also contact the airline and let them know what has happened and that he has copies of the ID used for the first part of his round trip flight.

He will explain the situation to the person at the counter before boarding hopping that they will enter some kind of note in the system regarding having seeing his original passport and matching it with the copies he is planning on showing for the returning fight.
