Hi there,

We just got our K1 approved and Im about to move over to the states soon to join my fiance. In preparation for the AOS interview down the line I am obviously going over what could be seen as weak links in our relationship or my immigration history.

To make a long story short, I was on an L1 visa when I proposed to my GF in early December but was unfortunately laid off a week later from work.

Due to the nature of the L1, if you loose your job in any way, then you loose the visa and need to return to where you came from without over staying. I left quickly after this as it was approaching Christmas and obviously didnt want to overstay and add complications down the line or at border control.

So here I am now, about to re-enter on a K1 which is fine and good but Im aware the AOS will most likely grill me on this area and potentially make it out that Im only coming back for work.

I will probably get some professional advice on how to deal with this, but wanted to hear how others would interpret this so it's not me getting too worked up in my own head. I wont lie under oath but would love to tackle this in a way that's direct, to respect the interviewer, but and also in a way to make it sound what it is, me being a victim to unfortunate circumstance.

Thanks in advance!

I don;t think it will be an issue; if it were, you'd have had trouble at the K1 interview.
