About 65,000 people on Sunday held a protest in Okinawa, Japan, to pressure U.S. military bases to leave the country after a former Marine was arrested in connection with the rape and killing of a local woman.

The protesters wore black to mourn the woman as they demanded Japanese officials to review the U.S.-Japanese security agreement, which allows for the continued presence of U.S. military bases in Japan, the Associated Press reports.

The woman’s body was found last month. A U.S. contractor, who is a former Marine, was arrested last month on suspicion of abandoning her body. However, he has not yet been charged with killing her, according to the AP.

The Japanese government wants the base there as does the US. Its strategically important especially with the east china sea issues.

Well lets let the Japanese pay for their own defense. We are broke. 20T in debt. Our middle class is disappearing. We can't afford to police the world.

I know I sound like a filthy commie hippie, but are not we that last of the big Imperialist countries.

I think it's like when two dogs fight over who is dominant. When human interferes it makes things worse . We have a history, of making things worse. Maybe except for WW2

Iraq was sure more stable

We didn't really solve anything permanently in Korea

We screwed up royally in Nam

But we got into WW1 and WW2 through isolationism. The US getting out of Japan would not be a good thing for Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and the Philippines to name just a few countries that would suffer. Not that we don't cause any issues being there. It's a tough situation.

No this sounds like Trump
