I have few questions about a first visit from my possible future wife. We want to set up a visit to get to know each other more personally. She has to go to the embassy and answer questions to get a visa. I know they want to be sure she goes back to her country. I dont know how to go about this. She has little money but Im willing to fund the visit. They will ask her if she has the money to come here including airplane tickets. Does she tell them Im funding the visit? She will stay with me. Is that a problem for them? Will they ask if I am her boyfriend and if she says yes, will they be reluctant to give her a visa? We want all of this to be legal all the way but also Im afraid if they know that we are close they will deny her visit. Am I wrong?

She is from Brazil. Anyone that has been through the process from Brazil to the US would be very helpful in contacting me.

Thanks for any help,

James

Sorry, got confused because your profile said Germany.

Yes, it might be hard for her to obtain a tourist visa. She will need to answer all questions truthfully and demonstrate her reasons to return to Brasil (job, family, other important obligations?).

**** Moving from K1 finace visa to TOurist visa forum as Op is asking about that process *****

Yes it will be difficult for a young, single woman with a US fiance to get a tourist visa. Not impossible, just don't buy plane tickets and such before she gets approved. She does need to tell the truth about you. The most important thing is for her to show reasons she will return to Brazil, such as a job, university enrollment etc.

We are an older couple and she has a good job she has been working in for 28 yrs and she does have family there to return to. She has a home to go to with an older son that lives with her. We are going to be totally truthful about everything. I wont buy the plane tickets til all is approved. Its disheartening to know its so difficult to get a visa to visit. I understand why. The visit is important because of the rules to see each other personally within two years. I want her to see where she may live.

Just apply and let her answer thruthfully and see what happens. If she doesnt get the visa it is not the end of the world.

Sounds like you have not met yet? Go to visit her in Brasil if she cant come and see you.

Brazil has an extremely low denial rate for tourist visas so it won't necessarily be difficult. It is not illegal to have an SO in the US.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

The fact that she is a little older may help.

Has she travelled to other countries before? That can help, too.

I have another question, She needs sufficient funds to visit. She doesnt have enough funds. If I send her the money, how much is sufficient?

Do not do this. This is the oldest trick in the world - fattening her bank account by her US citizen boyfriend to fool the US Embassy that she has money. The money is a tie to the US. It's not a tie to Brazil. This will end up badly if she has to explain where the money suddenly came from.

Is paying for the airline tickets and the visa an issue? How much money do they think she needs to be able to visit? She will be staying with me so she doesnt need anything for room and board.

Not in itself. However, it sure looks like she is dependent on you and is unable to pay for her own trip. Not being able to pay for her own way is a negative.

The more you make it look like she is dependent on you, the worst it is for her.

Why can't you just go visit her? That solves the meeting within 2 years problem for the K-1.
