Hey guys it's me again, we have finally sent the package for the k1 visa application and have received the first NOA which is so exciting! As it is now in process I am looking back at the medical and the vaccination I will need. I am able to find a list but does anyone know of this is something I can speak to my doctor about getting instead of waiting until the medical and then having to have them there in London? I know I will have to pay for them but just wanting to get as much sorted as possible before I have that medical. Obviously I don't want to put any delays in there so if I can get them all sorted before hand that would be great. Any help is appreciated :) TIA

Go to your local GP and have them check your vaccination records. If you need anything on the list get it done by them and get a printout of your most up-to-date records. The doctors in London will charge a lot more if you wait. Also, find out if you ever had chicken pox as a child and make sure you tell the London doctors.

This is what I thought about the cost. I don't want to delay anything and I most definitely don't want to be charged through the roof for injections that I could have had earlier and paid less if of lynne I had thought ahead. I did have CP as a child and there is probably a photograph of it somewhere hehe. Well definitely have some scars from it. I will call the doctor and see what they say. That's a shed load of injections.... ?

I have called my GP and they have told me what I have or have not had. They have also told me that they don't do certain vaccines such as the Hep B. This is a concern as I have read that it is given in 3 to 4 shots over 6 months. They also don't do the Influenza until September... what on earth happens if you cannot get the Hep B in time to finish the course before your medical?

I had the Hep A+B combination shots over the course of a month - an accellerated course with a booster due in 1 year. I don't know if they can offer the same for Hep B only.

Influenza is fine so long as it's not flu season. You *might* have to get it later on but I'm unsure.

You don't need to provide evidence of chicken pox. The London doctor will take your word for it. Try and find out the date just in case though.

I am totally confused by the vaccinations and I just called knightsbridge to ask them. Rude and unhelpful. Told me I would have to wait until my medical to find out. That's ridiculous... I have already had the Hep A so don't need a combo. I can get the Hep B done closer to home literally 5 miles down the road at a cost of about £100 for all the shots. The Influenza I have been told they can do at the same place as the Hep B. However the Influenza type B has got me confused. This is on the list of requirements however is not on the price list for knightsbridge so I don't even know if they do it which is what I was asking. She told me she couldn't tell me until the day of my medical. It's so confusing and this frustrates me. You try and do everything by the book and then you get them making it ridiculously hard ??

Posted

Can anyone advise if they have had the following vaccinations at knightsbridge?

Influenza (pretty sure this can be given at the medical)

Influenza type B (HIB)

Rotavirus

If you have waited to have vaccinations at knightsbridge how long has it delayed you?

A K1 can get a visa with zero shots, but if you get them done and signed off at Knightsbridge you may avoid high costs in the US for a civil surgeon to sign you off.

These shots are needed for immigrants 19 through 59 years of age:

  • Td or Tdap - Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis or get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted for AOS also. The latest shot must be no longer than 10 years ago or you need a booster. If you have a record of receiving pertussis, then the Td is okay for the booster.
  • MMR - (if born in 1957 or later)-Mumps/measles/rubella. It's two doses in your life, but if you get the first dose, and 4 weeks haven't passed by your medical, they will waive the second dose for "insufficient time interval". If you only had one dose as a child, get a second one before the medical.
  • Varicella - Not routinely given in the UK . A history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam so just say "I had chickenpox" and no shot
  • Influenza Required during flu season only, October 1 through March 31. it is not flu season so no shot.

Addition to my above post:

To be more clear and specific, an adult does not need Hep A or B, Rotavirus, Polio, Pneumococcal, Hib, Meningococcal (MCV4),

Or a flu shot if you get signed off when it is not flu season.

Or varicella if you have had chickenpox.

You do not need to catch up or prove baby shots.

On a series of shots, immigration does not make you wait to get them all. If enough time has elapsed (on your medical date) where you can safely have another dose, then you get it. But if the waiting period between doses has not elapsed, you are marked for a waiver of "insufficient time interval" and don't have to get the dose.

Thanks for your help however I do get confused with these. Here is a list of what I have had or haven't had...

Hep A - 2007 then booster in 2009

Hep B - not received but can get this

Influenza - not received

Influenza type B - not received.

(I have spoken to a doctor who said I can get this as a combined injection as of September but not before due to not being that time of year where these are required)

Measles - received 1994 (MMR)

Meningococcal- received 2000

Mumps - received 1994 (MMR)

Pneumococcal - unsure

Pertussis - 2005 ( this is with tetanus and Diphtheria so may be required to have this again)

Polio - 1994 ( this says it was a booster DT double & Polio, whatever that means )

Rotavirus - no record ( but I believe this is only given to babies and not adults )

Rubella - received 1994 (MMR)

Tetanus and Diphtheria- received 2005

Varicella - Not required but doctors have said they can do a test to show I am immune to this as had them as a child. But no doctors record states this

I don't mind paying for them and I will get the Hep B done if required but will start the course now rather than further down the line getting stuck.

I do appreciate all your help :)

Did you read my post listing the adult shots needed? Sound like you missed it or you wouldn't have asked these questions. Go back to post #8.

Thanks for your help however I do get confused with these. Here is a list of what I have had or haven't had...

Hep A - 2007 then booster in 2009 Not required. Forget about it.

Hep B - not received but can get this Not required. Forget about it.

Flu--- Read what was said above that NO flu shot is required if your medical in not during flu season.

Influenza - not received Not required if your medical is before Oct 1.

Influenza type B - not received.

(I have spoken to a doctor who said I can get this as a combined injection as of September but not before due to not being that time of year where these are required)

Meningococcal- received 2000 Not required. Forget about it.

Pneumococcal - unsure Not required. Forget about it.

Polio - 1994 ( this says it was a booster DT double & Polio, whatever that means ) Not required. Forget about it.

Rotavirus - no record ( but I believe this is only given to babies and not adults ) Not required. Forget about it.

Varicella - Not required but doctors have said they can do a test to show I am immune to this as had them as a child. But no doctors record states this No record required!!! Tell them. They believe you.

Is 2005 within the last 10 years? If it is more than 10 years ago, then you need a Td booster

Tetanus and Diphtheria- received 2005

Pertussis - 2005 ( this is with tetanus and Diphtheria so may be required to have this again)

Mump, measles, Rubella. You have been dosed for these once. Get another MMR. It's a combo shot.

Mumps - received 1994 (MMR)

Measles - received 1994 (MMR)

Rubella - received 1994 (MMR)

I don't mind paying for them and I will get the Hep B done if required but will start the course now rather than further down the line getting stuck.

Hi

I didnt take the vaccinations because I am very allergic. I stated that to that dr and he wrote on my paper the allergic problem.

I couldnt retrieve my past vaccination history by my house doctor cos everything before 1968 they dont have in their system.

I'm sorry I did read your post and I always appreciate your help Nick. I just got a little bit confused when the names changed to initials. Sometimes people really do have to spell things out for me ? can i ask why you say you don't need them but it is on the required vaccinations list. I understand with the flu ones as they don't even exist right now for this year but what about the other like Hep A and B? Is this because it's the k1 visa?

Posted

Zoe, listen to Nich-Nick. She's 100% correct for what is needed for a K-1 (and a CR1/IR1 for that matter) in London.

You need:

MMR

Tdap

Influenza if in flu season

A statement from you at the medical at Knightsbridge that you had chickenpox -- no need to prove anything with records or scars.

No Hep A, no Hep B, no nothing else. Try to get the jabs on the NHS and save yourself some money.

You don't need any of the others because you are not in the requisite age ranges (IPV: 2 mos to 17 years; rotavirus: 6 weeks to 8 mos; Hib: 2-59 mos; Hep A: 12-23 mos; Hep B: birth to 18 years; Meningococcal: 11-18 years; Pneumococcal: 2-59 months and over 65 years).

Don't overthink this! You need only the ones mentioned by Nich. Don't think about the whys and wherefores of the jabs you don't need. Focus on what you do need. :)

Zoe, cross my heart and hope to die, swear on a Bible, and my nana's grave.. you only need the shots that Nich-Nick has described. Promise. 100% promise.
