Hi JFH, I was married one time before in the country I grew up. I have or can get the divorce decree online as well as my current marital status. I'm legally tied to my country of birth although I lived there just the first years of my life and never as an adult. Thats also why I ask this question, I recently changed it but if I need gor example my birthcertificate I need to get that from my country of birth. If I need to proof my marital status I need to travel to that vountry to get the documents.I'm

familiar with the requirements for police records, that only applies for the country I grew up.

I just noticed that there is a limit of times I can post..so if I don't react its because I have to wait til June 18 :-)

You are very focused on this marital status thing. I will make it 100% clear for you. Your word as to your current single status is all that is needed. America, unlike many other countries, does not have a document that states whether a person is single or married (which can create issues when Americans marry in other countries, but that is besides the point).

Depending on the state, to get married in America, you will need your divorce decree from wherever it was issued and that is it. No proof of current status, so forget that concept even exists.

Hi N-O-L-A, I rather be focussed on it order to be ahead in case I need to travel to get documents. And to make sure I ask questions to people who might know more about this type of situations :-)

Now I learned that there is no such a thing as marital status required in the USA. Thanks for sharing that information.

Also thank you everyone for helping me to understand the situation better.
