Questions about Form I-864 (Affidavit of Support)

I have two questions about this form:

(I am currently in Pakistan visiting my husband, but leaving on Monday.)

1. The downloaded form will not allow me to type in a few of the answers. Is it ok for me to print out the typed part and write in the answers by hand in ink to those questions that cannot be typed? Then I could sign the papers, make myself a copy to take home with me, and leave him the completed I-864.

2. We are currently trying to get my husband's divorce papers (got RFE because they want a different type of divorce paper...grrrrr), so we must then submit the papers back to Nebraska. Hopefully, we will then get our NOA2 and be approved. Can I go ahead and fill out our I-864 while I am here, sign it, and leave it with him for his future interview? I brought all of the financial documents needed to attach to it. This would save at least one step in the process. Also, do I submit the I-864 to NVC or does he bring them to his interview, or both?

Answers:

• If you are unable to type on the form itself, then go ahead and write in what you need to write in.
• Take the completed I-864 home with you, don't leave it behind because you will need to submit it to the NVC when the time comes.
• I-864 does not need to be brought to the interview unless information previously submitted fundamentally changes which would necessitate a new form.
