Fort Lauderdale Airport

Hey everyone.

I had my interview the past Tuesday ans got approved thank God, I been checking flights but all make the first lay over in Fort Lauderdale airport. I heard that's a very crowded busy place for immigration.

If I have a four hour window will I be fine and have enough time for it?

How about JetBlue... they may offer nonstop like they offer for NY..

We are also looking at moving to South Carolina after we are married. Your profile says South Carolina so of course you live there. Do you know anything about Lake Greenwood?

I think JetBlue is a good airline and that's the one I'll be using from Bogota to FLL but sadley they don't flight to Myrtle Beach that is the city I'm going, so the only one was Spirit Airlines, I'll switch airlines getting there.

I never heard of Lake Greenwood, my fiance says is only 3:30 away and that is really nice and beautiful. Are you already in NY or still in the process?

I have travelled thru FLL many times while visiting my husband and I can tell you that YES it can be crowded depending on how many flights have come in but if your flight is first in, then you should have no issues

Also, since it is a relatively smaller airport, the transit time thru there is quick enough...so your 4hr should be sufficient

We now have the NVC case number and starting the D160. Do you know how much time do we need to spend in Bogota to get medical and labs in addition to Biometrics and interview? We also have an 11 year boy who will be applying for K2 on the same application.

Spirit nickel and dimes you to death lol!! Be careful with their luggage weights, allot of people find they have to pay more at the gate weigh in. I used it many times but switched to Jet Blue for most of my travelling back and forth.. I like going through Cartagena.

I discovered that as cheap as Spirit can be, gets allot closer to Jetblue prices after all the little extras.

FLL can be very crowded like the previous poster called out. If you get in after a few other flights it bogs down. Miami can be a real nightmare. Those lines in the baggage claim area can be hairy. Four hours should be ok. Cell phones dont work in that area either and the TSA guys will remind you to put it away.

Okay well I had a few issues, because I had the same timeline with a girl from Bogota and another one from Cali when our case at the same time to the NVC but mine went to Processing Administrative and thats when I got behind them, so for them took like two days in NVC and then sent to the embassy, then for the embassy to send the email wirh the instructions it took like 3 or 4 weeks, so no rush in filling the Ds 160 or paying the fee

You can do everything in three days I would say, first day laboratory and in the afternoon see the doctor and next day finger prints and the third day do the interview.

I bought a checked bag on spirit airlines for $32 I cannot go over 18 kgs.. I'll check that out when I'm at the airport here in Cali

My wife and I flew from Cartagena to Fort Lauderdale in January returning from vacation. I don't recall a long line to get through immigration - maybe 20 or 30 minutes. Since you'll have additional POE processing to do, it will obviously take you longer than that but a 4 hour layover should be fine. The airport itself is not all that big so you won't have a lot of walking to do.

I concur with this timeline. By the way, the Bogota finger print office is open on Saturdays so if you have an interview at the beginning or end of the week and need to squeeze in your finger printing somewhere, consider a Saturday appointment.

Wow didnt know about the Saturday, that may be extremely helpful. We can almost get a free day lol.
