F1-OPT to Green card application

Hello everyone, this is the first time I am on this forum and hope to get required suggestions from y'all. I am certified in teaching from my country and a science graduate; however, I wanted to upgrade myself and completed my associate degree from a community college in Orlando with very good grades. It was difficult for me to find a job while on OPT in a school set up due to the limited time period of one year that is attached to my EAD card. My EAD card was delayed to be delivered to me by almost three months. Well, now I am able to find a job in a preschool. My concern is to work on my immigration papers soon as I want to be a teacher here, and not have any limitations for either visiting my family in my home country or just finish up and go to college again to keep up my F1 status here.

Can anyone suggest me as to how is it possible for me to go for a change of status from F1 visa to getting Green card? Is there any scope?

There is no direct path from OPT to green card.

To be a teacher in your state you'll have to meet the state standards set up by the state DOE. Do you have those credentials? Have you passed the state certification exams? If not, you better get started as OPT does not last forever.

Thanks, I am preparing for these exams. As I mentioned, OPT is only for a year. But do you think that certification will lead me to apply for the process I am looking for ?

For a teaching position, it's highly unlikely you will be able to go from OPT to GC. Your school has to petition for you and that too assuming there are no US citizens available or qualified for that position. If you are married to a USC, your spouse can petition for you. If not, i don't see a path to GC.

First - meet the certification requirements for your state

Second - obtain a job offer. Speak to their immigration attorneys regarding their sponsorship of immigrants.

You are far away from obtaining a green card. Focus on staying in the country legally and pursuing your dream of becoming a teacher.

How so.. squareleg to sillypoint?

1. You are not moderator. It reminded me of early this morning.....I was in the queue to board the flight and person in front of me had no status and tried to board....was sent back.

2. Squareleg is defense command post and field exercise.

Some folks prefer other routes than getting married to USC.

Teachers also have access to H1B visas. There are certain School Districts who are exempt from the annual numerical H-1B cap/quota. This can an impact on qualification.

Depending upon qualification and visa being granted....they can apply for permanent residency.
