Hello,

Received an interview letter a few days ago and have a question. The letter states the following:

You must bring the following items to the visa interview:

  • Any original documents the NVC requested that you did not submit

I submitted my original birth certificate and police certificate to the NVC already.

Then I read on the uk.usembassy.gov the following:

Immigrant / Fiancé (e) Visa Document Checklist

You are required to obtain the original or certified copy, and one photocopy (with the exception of your passport and photographs) of the following documents for yourself and each family member applying for a visa. All documents are required even if they were previously submitted to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services with your petition.

-passport

-birth certificate

-marriage certificate

-police certificate

-ect.

So I am very confused now. Do I need obtain the certified copies of each? Or just copies are ok since NVC sent those documents to the U.S. Embassy already? I would appreciate if anyone could explain this to me.

Thank you very much in advance.

A long time ago they wanted a photocopy of your original documents for the file so they could hand back your originals. They don't want those photocopies anymore in London.

If it's an original and went to NVC, it will get to London from NVC for your interview . Nothing more needed.

If it was only a photocopy of a listed document that went to NVC, then London will need to see the original with their own eyes, but will not want an additional photocopy of it. Two guys discussing their recent interviews confirmed this is still true in London despite the London website saying additional photocopies needed. They aren't great at tidying up the "old" instructions sometimes. There immunization list was out of date for at least five years before fixing it.

You will be handed back your original documents.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Originals were sent, except for divorce certificate so I will have to bring the original one.

Oh, and thanks for pointing out immunizations list, will do the research on that.

Best regards.
