I was more or less just thinking (typing, rather) out loud.... didn't know if anyone had any issues with Express versus Priority as I've never used Express before. :/

Lol. Lots of folks with short fuses here..don't mind them. Do your thing! :-)

You talk you teach, you listen you learn

Yeah... wasn't trying to make anyone mad or ask for permission to send Express lol I was just thinking "hm I wonder if they'll let me just switch over to Express from Priority" and maybe just charge me the difference for packaging. I just want to get it there and get it out of the way because it's stressing me out. :P

Thank you all for the advise. I managed to jump through some hoops and talk to someone at the post office directly.

Apparently, they think the computer scanned the "from" address instead of the "to" address and that's why it just bounced around in the state. I had printed the address out on paper so it was clearly written, so not sure why that occured.

A man at the post office went and found my package and put it aside so I can come in first thing tomorrow and fix it. I'm so relieved.

He said we can repackage it so I don't have to pay twice etc but I'm thinking of just doing an express flat-rate box instead of priority if that's an option? Also I don't know if I should print out another thing for the address or just hand write it with a sharpie at the office?

I'm happy for you that your were able to resolve the situation. Best luck!!

You should be able to upgrade your package and they are generally good with giving you credit on the priority you were initially sending. I always, always use express because it's handled in a more 'intimate' way and less chance of screw up. As a rule of thumb though, when addressing labels, make sure that where it's going is typed/handwritten BIGGER than where it's coming from, cause the computer reads from bottom to top and reads the biggest/most brilliant (explains your merry go round package trip). Good luck!!

Good to know! The guy was super helpful and said it wouldn't be an issue and that he would tell his coworkers to expect me coming in tomorrow.

That's the weird thing though... I had written them in different sizes, with the return address in the corner and the Vermont address in the middle, much bigger. But the guys said he thought it might be because there wasn't enough space or lines separating them that the computer might have read the top corner instead of the middle.

I re printed it in different ways and I'll ask what they think looks best tomorrow in hopes of it not being an issue again. :)

Maybe put the 'from' address label sideways or on the back. I purposely put our address on the back of envelopes or the side of boxes after having the idea that someone one day will mix up the two and I'll receive the mail I sent out.

Good luck tomorrow though. I hope it's all sorted quickly :)

Good idea! Didn't think of that. I had just never had an issue with that before, I didn't realize computers sorted it, I just thought it was sorted by hand.

I always just buy the postage online and print out the label USPS gives. This way, they can't screw up the addresses. Also, I just use their free priority mail envelopes with the flat rate. Never had a problem.

BTW, if you want to talk to a local USPS post office, go here: https://tools.usps.com/go/POLocatorAction!input.action

Choose Post Offices, put in your zip code, then click on your local post office. It will display the local number of that post office under the main 800 number.

You're fine. Go to the post office, upgrade the package. There should be no problem doing that. Ignore the, don't use Express Mail comments. I use Express mail for all my legal documents. Costs me $61 to send an Express Envelope to Japan. Costs $12 to send Express from Japan to here. :ranting:

Printed names and addresses in standard font spaced far apart upper left, lower right is best. If the address overlaps in the center too much, there can be a problem.

Ah! Didn't think to just print the label from online. And yes that's how I managed to track down the number haha!

I thought about using Express at first but I had used Priority last time without issue so I just went with that again.

Just got back from the post office!

They sent it Express for me, didn't have to pay the difference or anything.

Apparently my label wasn't the issue like they originally thought, the lady that works at the other post office put in or scanned the wrong address right off the bat. Everyone was super apologetic, I was just thankful that it was safe more than anything.

Said it should arrive by tomorrow afternoon, so I guess the USCIS will see it on Monday?

Man I feel like such a noob asking all of these questions haha I was so confident with AOS and it went off without a hitch! But I also wasn't working and didn't have as much going on then. :P

I didn't request a signature because it was going to a P.O. Box, so is that automatic with Express? or common for a package to be signed for at a P.O. Box?

Yeah, that's fine. My AOS application was signed for and it went to the Chicago Lockbox (obviously a P.O. Box).

I think I only sent it Priority.
