So I have my K1 interview next week on the 22nd. I'm making sure I have everything I need for it and am slightly paranoid I'll forget something. All the papers are inside a binder/folder that separates things by flaps (and is clear on the front). Please help me stop freaking out about the little things! Or see if I've missed something.

The Checklist:

  • My current passport and my old passport. (Photocopy of the bio page for my current passport)
  • Medical files (x-ray, although that's not needed, and the rest).
  • 4 US Passport Pictures.
  • My birth certificate, copy of birth certificate.
  • Police Check (Just the name check, which doesn't have my old names on it. Unfortunately the fingerprint one from the commissionaire seems to have been lost in the mail).
  • Name Change Certificate.
  • Confirmation E-mail (the one that says K Visa Application Confirmation (action required).
  • Our original I-129F.
  • Our NOA1 and the Packet 3.
  • The I-134 Support Form and 3 years worth of taxes. Also his employment verification.
  • The DS-160 page printed off (with the confirmation bar).

Questions:

  1. What am I missing?
  2. Do I need a copy of his passport for the interview? We sent it in with our I-129F.
  3. If he's living in the US, do I need to get him to send me proof of his living there? (rental agreement, bills, etc). Everything I searched on here seemed to say it was only for the CR-1 Visa.
  4. If he's there at the interview with me.. How does it go? Can he come up with me when our number bings? Does he just sit there and wait to see if he's allowed to come up with me?
  5. On the confirmation e-mail it says I need the letter from the Consular section. What is that? Is that the page that I need to print off when making the interview appointment?

1. It appears that you have your ducks in a row.

2. A copy of his passport is not required or requested for the interview. (if he is present for your interview waiting outside, he can give you his actual passport, of which you can present to them if asked the last time you met. This is helpful for high fraud countries, but Canada is not one of those countries. I do not know how beneficial this would be, but it can't hurt).

3. I do not know the answer to this, but maybe the tax transcripts will cover the residency requirement. (not all residents have rental agreements, or even bills for that matter)

4. Typically the spouse is not allowed to attend the actual Interview, and will be requested to wait for you outside.

5. I do not know the answer to this one.

Hello PandaSong,

I am USC and I went to the interview with my fiance in Montreal.

1. I was about to say that you forgot the letter of intent. The checklist said the letter of intent by petitioner but we brought the letters for both petitioner and beneficiary. As for the affidavit of support, we brought 3 years of tax returns, employment letter, and pay stubs but he only collected the 2015 tax return and asked us if we brought W2 form. When we said no he said that's fine. So I guess, you can bring W2 form as an extra if your fiance has one but I don't think it is necessary.

2. Based on our experience, we did not need to provide a copy of my passport

3. Nope.

4. Yes he can come up with you. Just make sure your fiance bring his USA passport. Otherwise, he can't enter the building. He can be next to you for the first part of interview where you give all your documents. The second part of the interview, he would have to wait. (I waited less than 5 minutes haha).

After the interview, we went to this cute restaurant called "Olive & gourmando" to celebrate our visa approval. It is about 10 minute walk. I highly recommend the place.

Good luck!!

Yes! I had totally forgot about that and only now went, "oh snap." Luckily he is coming to Montreal, so he can print it off at home now and then just give it to me there. He gave me about.. 250 pages worth of taxes, I'm hoping it'll be enough as I don't think he gave me the W2 form. But I do have the employment letter as well!

Thanks for answering all this. I wasn't sure how him being there would go. And a definite thank you for the restaurant suggestion! We'll probably walk around and talk for a bit (as our interview is way.. way early) then go out to eat and check into our other hotel. Will definitely be putting that restaurant onto our list!
