"Like"

I just thought maybe a "like", "congrats" and/or a "bummer!" button would work well here. There are a lot of simple "congrats!" posts (and for good reason) as well as "Aw, that stinks" posts. Might cut down on some of the fluff and make me feel better, as I like to post those types of posts but sometimes don't because there are so many =D

If it involves coding, I can probably help if needed. I've worked with a lot of different languages.

The "like" button (which confers reputation points when clicked) is on the lower right of every visible post.

I interpret that as more of an upvote (a la Reddit). I mean more of the Facebook thing where you can see who "liked" it (or disliked it, depending on the post). I don't think many people even notice the rep button.

i.e. I want to be able to say "Congratulations on your NOA2/CC/Visa approval!" without posting that every time (and have the poster know that I congratulated them, not just a numerical value increase)

You can see who upvoted or liked a post by clicking on it.

Considering the amount of rep some people have, I think it's well used.

I kind of agree though. There are so many people posting in different threads about receiving their NOA2 or their green card. And it would be nice to be able to give them something nicer than an up vote but not necessarily write each and everyone a personal congratulations note. Especially if you never really engaged with the poster before.

But at the same time I think things might derail if we start using dislike buttons. I suspect some people would use it in a bad way. Maybe we just need a special congratulations button
