They JUST mailed me to say they have not received the documents yet but the courier delivered them on Tuesday. I politely asked them to have a look because I was worried now. They said they are looking forward to receiving the documents.

That sounds weird. Can't imagine the embassy there being SO overly busy that it would take 3 days to open their mail.

Marienne - didn't that happen once before, where they send they hadn't received the docs, you said they had been delivered, and when they checked, they found them? It sounds like they are a bit disorganized. (Our embassy in Peru was too - sent us a letter confirming his visa interview appointment that they mailed AFTER the appointment, ha ha). Definitely follow-up with them to make sure they locate the docs.

I understand why your husband's family is wanting to get things going as far as packing/setting you up in the US, simply because that stuff usually takes lots of time, and obviously they are eager to have you (you should NOT feel guilty about having a tough time, but it's always useful to count one's blessings in a difficult time, and I would say that having such supportive in-laws, who are eager to have you with them, is a big blessing ... even if they're bad at filling out paperwork ). However, if you're not ready to sell things and your car because it gives you too much anxiety, then don't! You're the boss.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably be deciding on how I wanted to sell furniture/car/etc, researching how to move things, if any, to the US and getting quotes, decluttering, perhaps packing up and selling off non-essential items. I wouldn't be getting rid of my car; forget about September, don't you need it now?

Someone told me that when you mail documents to the Embassy the documents go through a process ie- security and it can be a little while before it actually reaches the hands that it needs to be in. Don't worry this is not a fast process.

Yes this happened last time also and they did find them.

Yes they go through some sort of security check but last two times it lasted one day not 3

** Update **

Embassy mailed us to say they now have all the required documents but haven't reached a decision on approval or denial yet. They will notify us when they've decided.
Cases were "touched" but still in AP.

I made the mistake of putting my car up for sale thinking it would take a long time to find a buyer but instead, I found one right away..now she is breathing down my neck to pay me for the car as she needs it next week.
Oops!! I should not have gone with what the lawyer said "it is an open and shut case, easy peasy"... Yeah... I dread a long AP

What do I do in the meantime you guys?
There is a bunch of things that need done IF we are to stay in AP for a long time.

I.e. Do I re-apply for my daughter to go the daycare? (this must be done in July). Do I re-apply for my teaching job? (also must be done ASAP as we start in September). Do I tell our landlord??
My in-laws want us there ASAP and I do mean ASAP. Like, get visa in hand one day, fly the next :/
Realistically that can't happen but we do need to be there ASAP both for my hubby to get treatment and for the boys to enroll in school which start late August

Wait a couple of weeks before deciding it's going to be a "long AP", I am not saying it's impossible for it to be, but it sure is unlikely, so just try to wait a little bit.

I agree. Just try to hold your horses on everything. They've only just gotten the papers in your file today, so it's premature to think you'll be in AP for a long time.

If you absolutely need the car, then just tell the buyer that it's not available yet, and if the deal falls through, so be it. If you can live for a few weeks to months without the car, then you can sell it now.

Does this mean they MIGHT be printing our visas? My sons' status was also updated today and again shows AP.

Oh I absolutely know this!!!

It is just that I think that had it not been for the RFEs we could have been done already and my husband would be getting his treatment now
