Just joined today and already finding things so helpful.

I understand that part of the K1 visa process (once we get to that point if that's the route we go) is the evidence of support. I currently live overseas with my long time BF and he has actually been supporting me (I'm the USC) the past 3 years as I am a stay at home mother. He has bank accounts in the US and there is more than enough money in them to show that he is capable of supporting himself (and our family) for the foreseeable future.

I'm a little unclear if he can show his own evidence of support or if it would still be necessary for a USC to do it. I won't have any job record for the past few years as we've been living here. Or will I need to ask someone in my family to write a letter of support as well?

Thanks all for the advice!

We used only assets to meet the financial requirements and all assets were in my name in Sweden.

Firstly, where is your husband from, i.e. where will the interview take place? Not all embassies accept assets, especially not in the foreign spouse's name.

For assets, there's a part on the I-864 which allows to add assets from the intending immigrant. Some embassies will also want you to fill out an i-864a, even though the instructions says not to for spouses. You need to provide bank statements showing ownership of the assets for a minimum of a year. We also included a letter from my bank manager, but that was more to show what the assets were in USD, as they were held in Sweden.

Super helpful (this place is amazing). We are in Argentina. He has a bank account in the US however and that's where the monies are/will be continuing to come in. Part of the contract of sale on our property (the reason we're actually moving to the US) means the buyer is committed to paying us X a month for the next 24 months as well so we can show monies will be coming in as well as what is sitting in the accounts already.

His income/assets cannot be used for the I-134 for a K-1 visa. They could be used when using an I-864 for a spousal visa. The assets must be at 3 times the income amount you are short, which is around $60k for assets only with a household size of 2. It will be higher for larger household sizes, since you mentioned you are a mom.

If he has income, he will need to provide proof that the income will continue from the same source once he becomes a permanent resident.

If you still want to go the K-1 route, then perhaps look for a co-sponsor.
