I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. That is a terrible thing. I can't believe she didn't even try to give it a new home or even talk with you about it. That's pathetic. My heart goes out to you, truly. Just ignore the rude comments...some people, in case you haven't noticed, will disagree with basically anything and I'm pretty sure they come to VJ to make themselves feel smarter. If that seems cryptic, I'm sorry. I've just really been unimpressed lately with the amount of arrogance I see from certain parties...but I never thought I'd see them do it on a thread about someone's greif. If she would have abandoned you she would have had more money!?!? What kind of a statement is that??? Very telling about the author of that quote, I think.

Anyway......I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you will feel better soon, I know how much it hurts for a cat to die just normally. :(

So, she told you, after the fact, that she was allergic to your cat and that she had put the cat down!? Sure, in time you may forgive her, but I would steer clear of that woman for the short-term future. What a horrible, horrible thing for her to do. Anyone who says this was a tiny mistake must be nuts.

Certainly puts into perspective my anger toward my parents for scrapping my CAR when I went overseas and left it with them. Geez.

On a less outraged note, I'm so sorry that you have to go through this loss and feelings of betrayal at the same time. Let yourself grieve the pet and then address your mother. (F)

First, I apologize on behalf of my husbands remarks.......he is insensitive when it comes to pets. I am a cat lover myself and my cat (big boy) is apart of my family..wish hubby would understand. My heart goes out to you....and I do not understand why your mother would do something like that....very insensitive. You have to forgive her....maybe not now..but one day you should. Go through your grieving process and healing process and then tell your mom "I don't understand what you did, but I do forgive you" and I can guarantee that your days will be brighter after that.

To Blessed to be stressed:) I realize that all things have a purpose and a time.....have faith and the Lord Almighty will provide... when the time is right, he NEVER fails!

We have a cat here at our house. She hates me and I hate her. But she's still here because she belongs to my son. When we move I will cart her hateful butt across town and I will continue to feed her after Zach goes off to university.

I personally could care less if I never saw her evil face again. But she's Zach's cat. So end of story.

*PS - BTW I prefer dogs to cats but I'm not a cat hater. This one is just a ######.*

That made me laugh - Rebecca, thanks!

We have a love-hate relationship with our dog, too. My husband loves her - I hate her! But she is part of the package, so I take care of her and even play with her when he travels for business.

Just putting the cat down without even talking to you or trying to find her a good home shows a lack of respect towards you, IMHO. Sorry to hear about it, Fuzz. (F)

i've always thought that someone that does not like cats is a mean person. thanks for proving that theory.

Hey not true. I don't like cats, but I'm not mean! (I think... haha) :P

I don't really like cats, but I'm not going to go out of my way to kill one--though I do drive them away with "free bath" offer (the majority of domestic cats HATE getting wet) if they approach me.

My mother put my cat down yesterday. The reason? She was allergic, badly. She didn't try to give her away or try to keep her outside (like she is between spring and fall). She just put her down. She was 12 years old, not ancient. I should have brought her with me. I don't want to see my mother anymore. This cat had gone through so much with me and didn't give a damn what I was like at any given moment, she just loved me.

lol.. When I first moved with my wife, I was like that, I was like #######?! why u let the cat sleep in our bed, then I'd kick the cat out of the bed, cuz in my folks house, pets were meant to live outside the house, and here my In laws have cats and dogs inside their house, and my wife's cat, so I was in shock!! but then, some days i'd be takin a nap, and the cat would go nap next to me, the purr is very relaxing.. so I was like, meh, ok, ain't that bad.. I'm still not a 100% cat person, but, well, she was the pet of a deceased friend from my wife, so, we take care of her

Does anyone in the southeast region of the US have or know of anyone who has a Siberian cat they would like to give away? Siberians are known for having a lot less dander, which makes them *almost* hypoallergenic. Since Karen is allergic, but loves cats, we are looking for one. Or will be soon after we move to our new house :)

One question does spring to mind. Why did your mother have your cat? If she was allergic to cats and if there were all these people in your family willing to take care of the cat, why didn't you make arrangements for the cat to live with one of them?

Joel, there is a Siberian Rescue Society, though their website doesn't seem to list any available cats currently. http://www.siberiancatrescue.com/index.html

Also, Flames9 is the Siberian expert on VJ, so you may want to ask him.

She was not allergic when I left. The cat was 12 years old and I thought she might have been too old to properly adapt to a different (warmer) climate.
