Hey,

i´m going to spend a semester abroad in the US starting August. I have been caught with Marijuana in November 2013 (in Germany). I had to go to court and only got a really low sentence just for owning Marijuana (not selling). Since I was only 18 the Judge said the record about that would get deleted when i turn 21. In the application for the F-1 i got asked: Are you or have you ever been a drug abuser or addict?

What should I answer here? Can you tell me if they can still see the record?

Greetings...

Answer the truth.

For immigration purposes, a criminal conviction will always exist, no matter whether a court expunges your record or not.

Yes, as Germany is quite strict on this and it will appear in a computer trail

and always be honest, getting caught in any misrepresentation is considered a lie and you will get a ban

Obviously the only answer is the truth.

Your records could be found by immigration. It is not the same background check as a summer job with McDonald's. USCIS is very thorough.

You'll only know if you apply, do you HAVE to study in the U.S.? Is it impossible to finish your degree in Germany?

I know some degree programs require an internship or co-op abroad, is your program like that or is this just a dream of yours?

good luck
