Converting B1/B2 visa to student visa

Hi, if I have an i-20 (offer letter from university) at my hand and I am travelling in USA through a B1/B2 visa (Multiple Entry), is it possible to apply for a student visa and convert my B1/B2 visa to student visa?

it is doable but if you ever wanted to travel back to Bangladesh or out of the states, you will need to apply for another student visa which has a very very slim chance of getting approved.

You can't convert a visa from inside the US.

You can change status.

The difference is what was posted by subwayguy. When you leave the US, you'll have to apply for a student visa prior your next US trip (if you want to be a student).

If you are not already in the US, as indicated by your earlier posts, you should not use the B2 to travel there with the intent of changing your status to F1 student. You should apply for the F1 visa now and enter using it. The visa you use to enter the US should match the primary purpose of reason for going to the US. Knowingly using one visa to enter when you plan to do something for which another type of visa is required could cause you to be hit with a misrepresentation finding that would result in a permanent ban on travel to the US.

You cannot, repeat, cannot enter the US on a B1\B2 to study; apply for a student visa in your home country.

Don't try to convert. USCIS looks at intent and process pretty seriously. If you apply for b1/b2 and try to convert it to Student Visa while you are here, they will not do anything while you are here. But if you get out and try to enter the next time, the possibility of getting no denied is way too high. The change of these types of intention is considered even fraud in some cases (filing for immigration while you are on visit visa).

For your own sake follow the due process, apply from outside with the right intent. The risk is just too much.

N.B- I have my own brother living in us with residentship who can apply for residentship as well once I am at us.

I am in my own country right now and have valid offer letter from an us university. but don't know whether can get student visa from here as I don't have full funding.

Make up your mind about where you are.

If you lack funding, you can't study even if you traveled to the US on a B2 with the illegal intent to change status.

What you're planning to do will make it so your wife will never be issued a tourist or f2 visa.

And if you are thinking your brother can apply for you to get legal residence status without you leaving the US, you are mistaken. He would first have to become a US citizen, then petition for you. The category you would be in (sibling of US citizen) would take at least 12 years -- you could not possibly stay in F1 status that long, especially since you don't have enough funds for the first schooling you wish to do.

As another poster said, if you don't have sufficient funds to get the student visa, you would not be approved for a change of status from B1/B2 to student status either -- you would still have to show you had the required funds.

Lastly, even if by some miracle you were approved for a change of status to student, there is no guarantee that the Embassy in Dhaka would issue a visa to you wife to join you -- they would not be able to evaluate her immigrant intent since it is tied to you and you did not use the visa the way you told them you would when they issued it.

OP if you do not have sufficient funds for school, how were you issued an I20? I now when I was issued mine, demonstrating how one was to pay for the expensive U.S. education was essential - no I20 was issued without being able to prove that the education could be funded.

Funny how you think your brother can apply for residency for you. That made me laugh out here lol.

You are completely showing intent of illegally immigrating on a B1/B2 visa even before you travel. Hopefully the immigration officer at the POE notices and takes the appropriate action when you try to enter.
