Hello,

I have a bachelors and masters degree in Energy from my home country in Europe.

Recently, I am planning to change the direction of my career by getting an associate degree in Computer Science with focus in Web Development from a community college. I plan to use these skills to get a job in the developing IT industry back in my home country. I will file for change of status from J1 to F1 after my admission for Jan 2017 term.

Though, I am concerned whether having a bachelors and masters degree in an unrelated field will affect my application for change of status at all or not ?

Also, I will be sponsoring half of the cost from my personal saving and the other half will be done by a friend who is one H1B Visa. Hence, I was also wondering if having a sponsor who is one H1B visa affect my application or not ?

I will be glad if someone can share some information and provide some guidance in this regard.

Thanks.

It sounds like you are looking for the cheapest option to hang out with a partner in the US.

Don't you need to meet the 2 year home residency requirement or do you have a waiver?

However, USCIS might not easily buy the concept of a person possessing a Masters degree trying to get into a 2 year community college for Associate degree (not even another bachelor or master) and a friend sponsoring that person for the school.

Hello,

Thanks for your replies. I know how my case looks like and that is the reason why I am worried. I am not at all involved with the person sponsoring me more than as a friends. But I understand how it looks on paper. I want to get an associate degree in CS (and maybe transfer to get a bachelor degree in CS if I have the financial resources) to get an entry level job in the IT field. I was not able to find any job in the energy sector in one year back in my home country.
