The AR 15 is the civilian version of the M-16, with no selector switch, that allows full automatic fire. M16 is military version - semi-auto or full-auto when first introduced in mid 1960's. Later another selector position was included for the 3 shot burst. AR15 is civilian version that is semi-auto only.

You have more firearms than I do which I only have 5, but I do have more than 8k rounds of various ammo for my firearms.

A relaxing day at the range one can run through over 300 rounds in a few hours of hand gun shooting .

Not according to the former ddcsr . The ar 15 was developed for military use.

Would be interested to know how many of the posters here are ex military . No one yet has proved the premise of the op to be wrong.

I am coming out I admit it. I am a Former Marine that has used the M16A4 in Combat. Yes, the M16 style weapon was initially designed for Combat in Vietnam. That is why it came with two firing switches on it Semi and Full Auto, which is now just Semi and a 3rd Burst. But it has been redesigned in the civilian world as a hunting and shooting enthusiast style weapon now, and ONLY COMES IN SEMI AUTO which means ONE trigger pull ONE round is fired. That is why you see companies redesigning to look cooler and have different colors on it because people like having selections.

I would in all honestly like to buy an AR15 because I want something like what I used in the Marines, but they are pretty expensive compared to other rifles. So alas I went out and bought my assault style weapon called the AK-47. Don't worry it is a pretty safe firearm it does not get up and go out of the house to shoot people, it stays in it's place until I bring it out of it's case. I have let my two older children (9 and 7) shoot it at firing range for about 5 rounds and me helping them.

A firearm is only a tool to be used by the user of that firearm, just because it is "Assault Style" means that it is bad. I love my AK-47 and I will never willingly give it up for someone that thinks they know better than me about firearms.

Orlando police recovered an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle at Pulse, the gay nightclub that Mateen chose as his target. He reportedly bought the AR-15 and a handgun legally within the last few days.

Without the semiautomatic rifle, which allows a shooter to fire off many rounds at once without reloading, it would have been harder to inflict quite as much damage in such a short period of time.

This Muslim was inside and in control of the situation for around 3 hours . The handgun was every bit capable of achieving the same outcome . We have not heard what gun was used. pure speculation from the liberal press.
