seems like we're already in that 'shtf' scenario. if it isn't gun violence from a mass shooter, it's gun violence from a domestic issue, or it's accidental gun violence or gang warfare or suicide..two constants, people/guns. it all comes down to which is more important to you. to some people, access to whatever gun they want is more important than restricting access.

does anyone here actually think laws are primarily pointless because people do whatever anyway?

Why do you need to have an AR-15 in your possession?

why do you feel people need to explain themselves to you?

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

It's funny that we have a thread that has more than a few gun experts and yet this one simple question never seems to get answered...

Because I am familiar with the platform. I know how to break it down. I enjoy target shooting with it. It's a choice.

So if you ban the AR, are you going to ban all 5.56 weapons or only ones that look like it. How about hand guns that are used to kill more in a week than all around deaths in a year.

The reason is that it makes no sense.

How about flag burning. Why does anyone need to do that. Port, why does anyone need to look at that. How about we execute warrantless searches at will, if you are on the no fly list

i'm telling you man, its all about emotions. gun experts that do not want reasonable gun control are emotionally invested guns. in turn they're reactionary regarding gun control. reason isn't first, the emotional attachment to guns is first. and ultimately i think that's because they're stuffed to the brim with nra propaganda.

How many people die from 9mm hand guns why aren't they trying to ban them. It's all a dog and pony show for people that buy into whatever some talking head on the news says.

20 pages in and I still don't have an answer to a question I asked several pages ago. Why do you need to have an AR-15 in your possession? I've heard folks say they need it for protection and to take care of family in case SHTF, but can't a handgun do the exact same? Or even a shotgun? Where do you live if you feel the need to have on for "safety"?

For the collectors, I kind of get it. You like guns, but this whole I need one for protection is a bit much.

I started to hint at in post 17. I will expand.

Don't think of the AR15 as a rifle. Its a platform. It can easily adjusted for any user's size. It can shoot many calibers.

I can build a lower and then buy a dedicated .22lr upper, a 5.56 upper etc.

Here is a list of all the uppers I can buy:

223/5.56

6 x 45

7 x 40

357 Mag Rimless

300 Whisper / .300Fireball / 300-.221

6.5 x 40

.30 Coyote (30 x 45)

.17 Remington

.17 Mach IV

.20 Tactical

.19 Calhoun

5.7 FN (developed by Rhinland Arms - no word yet on who is going to mfg it)

.204 Ruger

6.8 SPC

30 HRT

338 Spectre

10 mm Mag

35/40

219 WASP-C

7.62 x 40

5.45x39

7.62 x 39

.338 x 39

6 PPC

6.5 Grendel / 6.5 AR / 6.5 PPC Improved

22 PPC

7 sCAR ....

30 Carbine

5.45x39 / .21 Ghengis

7 BR

6.5 BR

300 Sabre

8mm (belt fed upper)

458 SOCOM

44 Mag

440 CorBon

44 AMP

.475 Tremor

50AE

499LW

50 Beowulf

.50 BMG (single shot)

.50 Blackpowder (1 made)

9mm

45ACP

32ACP

22 LR

17 HV

10mm

7.62x25

224 BoZ

7.62x24

9x23

.357 Sig

.357 Auto

40S&W

223 WSSM

243 WSSM

300 WSSM

.30 RAR

So why does a person need them? They can have a single rifle that can do more than any other firearm, all by changing a part.

So you don't need it right?

I'm also used to it as well. But you know what? I have no desire to own one for protection. And I lived in the most dangerous city in the US without having it.

I'm not talking about banning it, just asked why folks are dead set on having one.

But if I remember correctly, you're all about monitoring folks of a certain religion right?

That is another reason I need it

Help me understand folls. It's ok to deny a constitutional right to someone on a list but not to monitor them

You don't, and you know it.

Profiling someone based on just religious belief is just as bad. You're okay with it because you're not the one being profiled.

let me clarify my position, i am not in favor of banning particular guns and a free for all with others. likewise, i'm not in favor of ditching the 2nd altogether (which is the label that gets put on anyone who calls for better gun control). i don't think people who call for gun control are being reactionary because the news tells ar15s are bad and if ar15s were gone everything would be great. no one is saying that.

So if banning ar will not solve anything why ban them. It's just a semi automatic rifle. Nothing more nothing less
