The majority of firearms are made for civilian and military markets. They honestly go for military contracts first because they are more lucrative.

A good 19th century example is the henry repeater. It was developed during the Civil War and was hoped to be picked up by the north. Unfortunately not many were and instead it was best known as a civilian weapon.

The AR15 has been on the market for what 40 years? Why is it only an issue in the past decade?

Change in user? Wider availability in the civilian sector ?

Oh, nb. You obviously didn't click on the link.

Have you ever handled one? Damn thing nearly flew out of my hand!

Yes I have. 1000 and 1000s of time. The M16A1 and A2 as well as the AR-15. Also have fired M60, M2 50 cal. ,SAW, LAW Rocket, M1A1 Abrams tank, Vulcan AA, 105 Howitzer, 155 Howitzer, Claymore, A variety of hand grenades, Tow rocket, Dragon anti tank weapon, Colt 1911 and a bow legged girl on a ferris wheel.

The assertion that the AR15 is some kind of special lethal weapon of mass destruction is the assertion of someone that does not know diddly squat about firearms and their effective deployment. Low information people fall for that BS becuse they look like weapons the see on TV

PS. Isn't Gawker filing for Bankruptcy due to unethical actions?

I will admit, new shooters seem to want to buy them because they look cool I guess.

Bingo. Mass publicity . Thank you press and Obama

Oh yeah. That's another interesting topic. I raised the issue about control of the press by thinskinned millionaires a while back in my Hamilton thread a week or so ago.

If your interested I will post on this issue later this evening.

46 years actually. For the same reason that when I went to school everyone carried a buck knife and many had hunting rifles in their trucks and were allowed to bring them in school for show and tell, yet know one every got hurt.

It's your job to disprove the assertion that the AR15 is built primarily for slaughter in war zones. You have not done so, so far. Inform and educate .

The AR-15 shoots a 5.56 mm round. What makes it so much more dangerous coming out of the barrel of an AR15 as opposed to any other garden variety 5.56. How about we ban the AR 15.

You going to ban shotguns also, because that would be my choice if I was a sick radical jihadist who wanted to shoot up a gay night club. Heck for that matter, jam the doors and and drive a carload of gasoline into the place.

The weapon is not the issue

Well it would be boring to drive cars that were merely functional...

Thing is why is on the civilian market? What purpose does it serve that other guns or whatever the correct terminology may be don't fulfill?

Is it merely a lethal fashion accessory?

What purpose does a Shelby GT serve over a Camry.
