Too long and makes too many points for me to excerpt without pasting the whole damn thing... so if you feel like a good read, you'll have to go to the site yourself.

The site is safe for work and very informative, so enjoy.

Mine, too. The closer they get to retirement, the more wasteful they get. I don't really get it.

Me either - the latest thing is a $5000 tour of Italy... I don't get it. I'm only 26 and I think I'm more worried about paying for my retiremnt than she is about hers!

I agree..maybe they think psychologically theat when they retire ..lean days are here and must be thrifty, so they have their last bit of fun ( in their view, not mine) and spend on what they want..knowing soon fixed income is upon them..of course, that is a broad speculation and does not apply to all older folks...

It applies to my Boomer Mom. She's 44 and has NO retirement plan. I worry about her. :(

You know, I see how irresponsible so many old people are with our money (their social security comes out of our paychecks, not theirs) and it makes me wonder how pissed I'll be when the gubmint eventually (and you know it's coming) increases the social security withholding rate.

This is so totally opposite of my mum....she's hitting retirement age soon and is worried about the future. Her entire paycheck goes into a 401K so they just live off my stepfather's earnings (which is more than enough for them to live comfortably). I wish they WOULD think about spending a little money travelling before it's difficult physically speaking....not that they are in bad health, quite the opposite....but you know...

Think about how long they've contributed to social security themselves though...I can understand a how they feel they've paid and now it's time to get what's theirs. *shrug*

My grandparents are almost 81 and 79 respectively. They were good with their money, invested very well in the stock market, and now their investment guy is telling them to spend some of it now, because estate/inheritance tax will just decimate it when they die. So my gramps went and bought a new tractor with an air-conditioned/heated cab, so he can plow the driveway or help my cousins with the haying in comfort. And then he bought a computer and high-speed internet for my grandmother, so now we get emails from her, which is hysterically funny. And they go for their two weeks in Florida every winter.

We're all for it, because hey, it's their money they earned with lots of work, so go for it!
