I'm the foreigner and I drive, since my feet could touch the pedals, which was like 15 years ago lol

Anyway it was easy to get a driver's license here, I waited to get married so I could have my married name and the woman didn't want to pass me because I was driving at 30 in a 20 zone but hey, I only saw the sign saying 30 half second before it changed to 20, I wasn't born knowing that the speed limit here change every 5 seconds, nor the driving test manual says such, in Brazil pretty much every street has a speed limit that is the speed limit on the entire street, with the school zone exception, so blah, I had to get used to the crazy speed limit change here.

KEN's ROSE,

As sparkofcreation points out, there's more involved with getting a drivers license than just being able to operate the vehicle properly.

Yodrak

.....

And drive well enough that if possible could go to the DMV and get license just after leaving the airport.

Nope, she can't drive or ride a bicycle. I'll do my best to teach her but driving school is an option that may work better. Life in Florida would be tough without being able to drive, especially in the summer time. Plus she will need to drive to her swimming lessons because there is no way I can teach that.

Fely can not drive, but she has a driver's license (in the Philippines). She just paid some guy 400 pesos ($8) and got a license. I've noticed not many women in the Philippines drive.

I don't drive........I think I am the first person my husband has ever known who can't drive  He was clearly shocked when I told him. But he has come to love the British public transport system over the years.

Thats quite true, thus also with so many jeepneys and buses etc, really noone ever have to drive unless its to make money, and the men dominate that field. Many men are hired abroad as chauffers. However there are many filipinas that can moped.

Hi Everyone,

Good luck on your immigration journeys! What an interesting poll/thread, indeed! In answer to the message thread and poll, 'Yes, I (Ant), the non-USC (not yet, but soon to be USC), can drive!" In fact, I drive more often than my husband (the USC) does! "Let me drive!", I find myself saying often to him.

From my experience here in New York State, I got my (Ontario, G2 level) Canadian license transferred over, as NYS has an exchange/license surrendering agreement with Canada. I only had to pay the $40 license fee, which is good for 5 years. No written tests or road tests required for me either. Only a quick reading of the eye chart for the vision test was required (easy, peasy). What's needed for a NYS driver's license though is a SS#, which I got a couple of weeks later after I got my Green Card. Meanwhile, throughout the entire time I was in the USA before I got my US license, I just drove with my (Ontario) Canadian license, which was perfectly legal to do. The only frustration I had in driving with a Canadian license was that was still in my old maiden last name (which I really hate), not in my new married last name (which I really like). By the way, it is definitely a lot easier to drive in the USA and to get a license here in the USA it is easier too. No more G1, G2, G, graduated licencing ####### to deal with...Grrr.....Lucky me, I skipped the Ontario G2 exit/G test, and got a full/unrestricted NYS driver's license here!

The only adjustment that I had to make was that in Canada I drove in the city/urban areas in kilometres per hour, whereby in the USA here I drive in the small towns/rural areas in miles per hour. And yes, rural driving in the USA is a lot more easier, a lot more fun, and a lot more relaxing!
