Just wanted to know how many foreigners can drive a car.

And drive well enough that if possible could go to the DMV and get license just after leaving the airport.

Well that's not actually *legal* in most states (for example, New Jersey requires an EAD or green card, and a translation of the foreign license by someone on a designated list), but yeah, he *could* drive. Took me a good six months to get him to do so regularly though.

My wife could not drive when she arrived. That was almost two years ago, she drives now.

Uh, I voted yes cuz he recently completed driving classes and will soon get his license. However he doesn't have much experience driving and certainly not with the rules of the road here. Where he lives in India, there are no traffic lights, everyone drives in the middle of the road, no turn signals, etc. Hey that reminds me of a really funny (and soo true) satire on Indian driving, here:

My fiancee is an excellent driver who was frightened of the USA driving experience. Half an hour later she was marvelling at the ease of an automatic.

I had actually weighed the options of Pras learning to drive over there (in which case she indeed WOULD be able to pass US test on the first try), but this would require too much time off for her (having to go to the main city, from rural area). I'll be enrolling her in driving lessons sometime this year.

Hubby was a professional driver in Morocco and Texas recognizes his Moroccan DL for one year. I hate driving.

Yes, Sujeet knew how to drive before coming here. He just had to get used to everything being on the opposite side of the car and roads.
