Didnt send in N-400 but received mailing for biometrics

Confused?? My husband got a notice in March (I thought we had to apply first), and he was able to do the fingerprinting the week (date selected was a day we'd be out of the country). Now, are we just waiting for another notice? I feel like we should be doing something. His 1 yr extension is almost expired (end of summer). When does it expire btw? The date of notice or a yr after it is supposed to expire?

09/29/2012 - Mailed/Filed for I-130 via USPS Express Mail
10/02/2012 - I-130 Form received
10/03/2012 - E-Notification / Text Message Notification NOA1
10/04/2012 - USCIS Cashed Check ($420)
10/13/2012 - Received NOA1 in Mail
03/02/2013 - Case Status changed to RFE [exactly 5 months since received]
03/05/2013 - Paper RFE - Case at Field Office
03/13/2013 - Mailed out requested RFE

Sorry i guess the biometrics were for the AOS.. Not N400. So when is the extension expired? Date of GC I'm guessing, not the notice?

Sorry for the confusion.

That is correct. The extension extends the date on the GC by one year. Also, you can always reschedule the biometrics appointment. Mail the biometrics letter back requesting to reschedule the date.
