I had his bumper sticker on my car.

He took one of the most unsafe cities in the world and made it one of the safest. Davo has ambulances and 911. He is going to make the Philippines great again.

The US press will hat him, but he will cut crime in half, raise the standard and quality of life for the average Philippino . He will also stop a large part of the massive corruption in Govt that so cripples the Govt.

Where in Davao are you or your asawa from? My wife is from there as well and I LOVE IT THERE.

He may, in a way, cut crime, but he does it in a way that is certainly nothing to be applauded. No trials, just send a death squad to kill people he's decided are guilty. Age doesn't matter, children have been killed because it was decided that they needed to die. Yeah, crime will be reduced if you simply kill everybody that you think might be a criminal; but is that really the way society should be?

Also, he hasn't said anything about economic policies that will help the average Filipino. The most he has said is that he will continue what Aquino was doing.

Except for the fact that Duterte is no fan of the US.

Ok, you obviously do not live in Davao. The DDS is well known in the region and the people know that they if they do/push drugs in Davao City then it is their life they are dealing with. The problem in the Philippines is that Juveniles are able to do just about anything and NOTHING happens to them with the court system and that is a fact. So if you have a drug pusher who is 16, he is told to stop or move out of Davao, if he does not do either then the DDS comes.

I have been to Davao City and I love it there, I feel safer there than I do in Manila or Makati. He is very Nationalistic in nature and just wants the best for the Philippines.

He also has a potty mouth, making the disgusting rape joke.

That is why the common Filipino citizen loves him, because he does not mince his words and he says what he wants to say.

When I was there 3 years ago, he told the gang leaders and drug dealers in Davao. You have 48 hours to leave peacefully. After that you will leave violently. Your choice. Can you imagine a clean city with a nice standard of living with less than 1% crime rate in the Philippines. Heck in America for that,

Less than 1% crime

Yes Liberals hate him, but love the people who turn once great cities like Detroit into sweltering Ghettos.

Davao has a low crime rate about less than 1%. Current revenue statistics show Davao City to be the fifth-richest city in the Philippines in terms of local income and IRA - the only city outside greater Manila in the top five. The city government also maintains a 24-hour emergency response system patterned after the 9-1-1 system used in the United States. A curfew on minors is also observed in the city. All business establishments, in particular bars and discos, are mandated by a city ordinance to refrain from selling alcoholic drinks beyond 2:00 am. Also, motorcycle drivers with no helmets and motorists with defective lights are not allowed to enter or drive in the city. Regular checkpoints in key parts of Davao City and at the city boundaries are conducted 24 hours to ensure the strict implementation of traffic rules.

The use of fireworks and other similar pyrotechnics, as well as smoking, is strictly prohibited in most of the city. Even outdoors, if you are under a roof of any ...moreM+218

Davao is not as developed as Cebu or Manila. It doesn't have as many tall buildings nor as grandiose highway systems. But what makes Davao the best city is its collection of world-class social services and its offering of modern cosmopolitan living to all. For one, Davao TAP water is considered only second best to Switzerland's. Its 911 rescue system, the 3rd of such in the world, is free. Its traffic signalization program uses the same technology as the one in Los Angeles. Its environment is well taken care of, and a number of garden and forest resorts are must-see tourist attractions. Its people are peace-loving people, raking for the city the lowest recorded crime rates in the country. Its people are also law-abiding, making the city smoke-free for 10 years. Its culture traces back to the original tribes of the land and continues to thrive in modern times as showcased in extravagant festivities as the Kadayawan. It's also a stone throw away to Samal's pristine white sand beaches ...moreM+151

No doubt the best city in the philippines and still a young city with a lot of potential of becoming an economic power in the country. If not for mindanao issues this city should have been more progressive.M+138

Davao city people is very obedient and respectful to our environment because they lessen waste and keeping clean their city

Davao City is not as developed in some parts because it is one of the largest cities in the world. So you will have some very rural parts of it and some very developed parts of it. They do have the only 911 system in the Philippines for emergencies. The PNP in Davao City ticket anyone in city who is not obeying the law from the street vendor all the way to the Mayor. Davao City is a multi-cultural city combining Christians, Muslims, Lumads, and Indians all peacefully which is a rarity in Mindanao. The city has a curfew just like a majority of American cities/states on the set times of Alcohol buying which has led to a large drop in petty crime.

Ahhhhhh a place where the poor can be eliminated without judgment, no access to a lawyer, the ability to plant evidence, rid yourself of that next door neighbor with the punkish kid, or the neighbor who is too dark, or the gay couple down the street.

No, I don't live in Davao. Like most here, I live in the US. That's kind of why the site is about immigrating to the US, not Davao.

I have been to Davao multiple times, staying with relatives (not in the nicer parts of the city), shopping in the malls, seeing the sights, etc. Pretty much everybody from Mindanao is familiar with Davao.

Again, I understand that Davao is a safe city, but any city will be "safe" if the leader is allowed to kill anybody he wants. Let's pretend Duterte is really just a rough talking angel. That's why he allowed this privilege of death squads. Is the next mayor allowed to send out death squads also? It is a very dangerous precedent that has been set.

The problem in the Philippines is juveniles? I kind of thought the problem in the Philippines was government corruption. And, since that is the real problem, setting the death squad precedent is incredibly dangerous, especially when there is no idea what type of individual will be elected in 6 years. Imagine a typical corrupt Filipino politician, not a local politician but the leader of the country, who sends death squads to kill anyone he wants. Doesn't seem like too distant of a memory for some.

By the way, the other major problem facing the Philippines deals with the West Philippine Sea. If he wants what's best for the Philippines, maybe he should decide if he wants to sell out the Philippines for a train.

And, to be clear, my opinion is, and will always be, I will never believe that selling drugs is deserving of death.

Maybe you misread or misinterpreted what I said. I was saying that you must not be from the city. The majority of the people that bash him or criticize his ways have never lived there. So that is why I said that.

You started talking about how his "Death Squads" go out and kill juveniles with no problems, so that is why I started talk about that. Yes, corruption in the Philippines is rampant and sucks the life out of the economy. But so does having people commit crimes that can not be punished by law, this just allows them to commit more crime with no ability to jail them. My wife told me a story one time of a group of juveniles (16,17 years old) who were committing break ins and robbing people of their money and possessions. The police knew they were doing it but could not do anything against because they were juveniles. So the NPA stepped in and warned the juveniles once to stop committing those crimes, they did not stop, so the NPA killed those teens and left the bodies in the open as a testament to not steal from people. Luckily in her area the NPA are ok and not straight out bandits.

Yes I firmly agree with you, he needs to get his priorities straight because the Philippines has ton of problems right now that no one wants to do anything about from Smuggling, Money Lenders, Abu/MILF, West Philippine Sea, and Drought just to name a few. So I would like to see what he actually does and what happens when his rhetoric must meet the cold hard reality of life.

I was talking with a female from the Philippines that I sometimes do business with, yesterday, about the new president. She became most fervent, as she spoke about him, and said he was great for the country. I don't really know the politics of that country, so declined to comment/criticise. Surely it is best to leave a foreign country to decide its own future?

Gotta love that for the Drumpf crowd trashing the Constitution and all Civil Rights are what they are looking forward to if they can just get Drumpf elected. All while honestly appearing to delude themselves that anyone who is not a Drumpfer hates America.

Ha ha!

This is reality in Davao, They have had around 1000 criminals get elimated in the past 20 years

My brother in law was on the hit list a few years ago, the reason he is/was spared from DDS is his late father was Revenue Collector for the Philippines Government and a lawyer also and his family has a good reputation in Davao.

Will he be able to clean up his backyard first -> get rid of Abu sayyaf (famous for kidnapping foreigners for ransom) ?

In reality there is almost zero abu sayaff in Davao, Years ago it was a hot bed for Muslim terrorist and they also bombed the Davao Airport. I believe Duterte has said he will go after ABU Sayaff strongholds in places like Jolo.

Don't be confused with the recent kidnapping on Samal Island of the Canadians, That was probably an inside job and pre planned.

I am a big fan of Duterte, I am surprised to see the whole country fall in love with him. I am partial to Davao and have been going there since 2007 and have spent a lot of time in Davao. I was a bit shocked when he said he was going to run for President, he was a pretty well kept secret in Davao.

He ruled Davao with an Iron Fist. If you were a criminal you hated him, if you are a good person then you love him.

I see him doing great things for the whole country..............
