Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if any of your husbands who have arrived in the US have registered at their home country's consulate/embassy? Amed is wanting to register at the Algerian embassy, and they are asking for some pretty extensive stuff- a certified copy of his father's birth certificate, his birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.

The thing I am wondering about is that it asks for a "notarized copy of the alien registration card ("greencard") or U.S. Passport." How do you notarize a copy of something? I myself am a notary and we can only notarize signatures, not authenticate documents.

Does anyone know if there is a way of getting a certified copy of a greencard? I looked on the USCIS website, but didn't find anything. I would rather not have to contact immigration again if I don't have to. Am I making this harder than it should be?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I'm not sure about the "other" documents and have them make a copy and certify (notarize) it is a copy of the original, or even the USCIS (infopass) and have them make a copy of it and notarize that it is a copy of the original document.

Strange though about the other documents they want just to register his green card with them. But then again, I guess that is their prerogative what they require.

Hope you're able to sort it all out.

Can't you write a statement that the copies of the documents attached are authentic and unaltered and have that notorized? Just trying to make a best guess at what might work. Didn't know a notary could only notarize a signature!
