Dual Citizenship (Naturalized US citizen, Philippine born citizen)

my wife is a naturalized US citizen, she also acquired Philippine citizenship (through birth). Most Philippinos (PH) enter the Philippines with their US passport but I thought that the PH Consular say that they should be using their PH passport when entering the PH and advise immigration that they are also a US citizen. If you enter the PH with US passport you are considered a tourist and can only stay 30 days but with PH passport you can stay for years and work etc. Has anyone done this?

What is the rule to enter the PH with US or PH passport ? What are the repercussions consequences ?

I am dual citizen also (born in the Philippines, U.S. citizen through my parents), and I went to school in the Philippines. I never got a Philippine passport (for some reason my parents never wanted me to), even though I was advised to do so when I went to the Philippine embassy in NYC. I would go home to the US once a year, and every time I went through Philippine immigration they always questioned why I stayed so long. I would just show the original dual citizenship papers from the Philippine embassy, and then they would let me through with no other questions asked.

HOW LONG CAN I STAY IN THE PHILIPPINES?

You can stay in the Philippines indefinitely provided that upon your arrival in the Philippines you present before the Philippine Immigration Officer your valid US/Foreign passport and your Dual Citizenship Documents. EXCEPTION: when you travel with your Foreign Husband/Wife/Child. You and your foreign husband/wife/child are entitled to a visa-free entry to the Philippines for a period of one (1) year from arrival in the Philippines, among other privileges, provided you all have round trip/return tickets with the same return flight schedule to the US.

Wrong you will get a Balikbayan visa and be able to stay longer than a regular tourist. That also counts for you as well you will get a Balikbayan visa as well.

~~moved to Philippines regional forum from US citizenship forum. Question is about visiting the Philippines as a dual citizen not on how to get US citizenship. ~~

As a dual citizen your wife can stay in the Philippines without issue - Read XMARICRISX's post

Almost ~ the dual citizen doesn't need the balikbayan stamp, as a Philippine citizen there is no limitation on how long they stay.

I always just used my US passport since I never got my PH passport. I've never had any problems in the 5yrs I was studying in the Philippines.

Here ya go - when your wife gets to the counter, present both, let the agent choose. They will only stamp one passport, and I would bet they will choose the PH passport, I believe the Philippines follows the same rules as the USA - citizens must enter and exit the USA using their U.S. passport, so for the Phils... samo-samo only the PH passport.

you can use US passport to enter and leave philippines but you need to show them your IC (Identification Certificate) when are arriving or leaving PH.. I will be using my US passport when I leave PH. I will just show them my IC so that they know I'm a dual citizen and no fee for overstaying here..

you can get your IC at Phil Embassy if you're in US or in Bureau of Immigration here in philippines

You need to apply for Retention/Re-acquisition of Philippines Citizenship (RA9225) if you were naturalized when you were 18+ (not minor) costs 3000 pesos..not sure how long the process takes will get an oath of allegiance, oath of approval and IC

but if you were still a minor when you got naturalized (as derivative) and your parents applied for RA9225 and did not include you on their petition as derivative(like me) you will need to apply for "Recognition as Filipino" which costs 12,500 pesos and takes 2-3months to process.. you will only get an IC with recognition as filipino

you will also need your IC or oath of allegiance when you renew your phil passport if you answered YES to "Are you a holder of a foreign passport?" on the phil passport application form

it's up to you if you want to get a phil passport but if you don't have any problem bringing your IC which is a 1 page piece of short bond paper then you don't really need to pay and apply for a phil passport

My family always uses BOTH Philippines and US passports when entering and leaving Philippines. Somewhere I read this is a requirement, although I can't find a source at the moment.

We entered just the other day - both passports are stamped (see photo)

Of course, when entering and leaving the US, only the US passport is used.
