I've seen the NVC stage post here in the forum and it recommends us to call NVC a week or two after receiving our approval to see if they have our case already or to receive a case number. I called my adviser today and she said that I shouldn't be calling because in the letter it tells us to wait 30 days so I shouldn't expect anything before that. I'm confused!!!!!!! :( What if not calling delays everything!?

you can call but probably will not get any infromatuon / if lucky they will tell you your case number

getting thru to NVC is another story / it is hard to get anyone to answer

Your advisor is probably right in the sense that so many people just start calling NVC rght away or within a week causing unnecessarily the high volume of calls. Calling soon doesn't speed up the process while not calling soon doesn't delay it either.

When mine was at NVC i kept calling (like 10 times) it didn't delay anything. Just gives you a peace of mind knowing that it is there and they should give you your case number. give it about a week or 2 from when uscis says they approved to get to the nvc

What's wrong with calling doesn't hurt. Call when you want as many times as you want. Everyone should start calling after 2 weeks of approval just to make sure your case gets there. Once your approval status on USCIS website changes to send to DHS you should be monitoring to make sure it arrives at NVC.

I have seen too many people listen to that bad advice of lawyers and advisors not to never call NVC. 3,4,5,6 months later they are here and have no idea where their case is.

It's your case stay on top of it is my advice.

I think everybody should be calling and bugging the hell out of NVC until they implement a new and better system to automatically provide case numbers to petitioners. I think if they don't want people calling and bothering them then there should be a way to check the case online. Why they are not doing this is a mystery to me...

Listen to dwheels76! You need to be proactive at the NVC stage. Once your USCIS status changes to "your case has been sent to Department of State" wait about 1-2 weeks and start calling them to confirm they received your case. Then once they confirm, wait at least another 1-2 weeks and start calling them to get your case and invoice numbers. don't wait on them to contact you because them emailing you a welcome email is a hit or miss. not everyone gets one. If you want to keep your case moving, then be proactive and call them to check on your case.

Awwww thank you LinJoe. Also OP while you are waiting for case# be sure to read and re-read the NV Process wiki so you know everything that's going to happen and that is needed.

Do you already have your AOS and IV package ready to go?

I was in the same boat debating calling before the 30 days last week. I received our approval on May 3. I patiently waited, but the USCIS website didn't update saying it had been sent to the NVC for weeks, so I called the NVC on May 27 to see if they knew something I didn't. Nope, wasn't sent, yet. But the agent advised that at the moment they estimate that it's taking up to 6 weeks for the NVC to receive cases from USCIS once approved. USCIS website updated to say our case was sent on May 31. So something to consider. It just takes a bit longer for some cases to be sent from USCIS after approval.

im sorry to all who believe its unproductive...but my personal in my personal experience calling about 2 weeks after got me my case number. Which in turn let me do my D260. then calling again to have it reviewed got my invoices so I can pay them. If not I would have to wait for them to notify me. So I suggest to call' not alot but after each step a couple days after each. oh and I noticed that about 8am eastern time, and after 6pm eastern time was the nice helpful operators. IMO.

Actually they do this if they have an email address, however it's not as quick as calling them.
