Hi,

My boyfriend and I would like to get married. I am a UK citizen on an L1B visa and he is a US born citizen. If we get married and I apply for my green card when should I alert my employer that I am doing this?

Also if my employer decides to file for a green card for me and I get married during that time can I file for my green card through marriage and cancel the employer sponsored green card?

Your employer would likely need to know if you are a greencard hold vs visa holder, You don't have to tell him your plans if you don't want to. Tell him when you have a immigration status change. If the employer wants to file for a greencard for you, then telling him ahead of time would save him some money. Don't wait until he pays a lawyer and the filing fees, then say to cancel. That would be inconsiderate and a waste of resources.
