Got my combo card today. Just wondering, if any of you knows if I can use my combo card to ask for a name change in my SSN card as my card still bears my single name. And if so, how many days do you think is enough for me to go in SSA office and ask for a name change? Thanks a bunch! Hoping for speedy process for the rest of the group. ♥️♥️♥️

All you need is ID and marriage certificate. At least that's what I was told when I asked about a name change. You can just call them in the morning and double check.

The corporation I have been renting from was putting word out to the city that I don't live there anymore. The city then wanted to take me out of the cities register (The European Union requires it's citizens to be present in the country 8 months out of the year in order to be an official citizen) which has many consequences: I will no longer be able to have health insurance there (and we were too late to apply for it here so we'll have to wait until we receive the Green Card). And, more importantly, the corporation I rent from might want me to move. And since I'm not there I can't. So I called the city and said I still live there officially and I am traveling. I am intending to move officially when I receive a Green Card. Told them I'd be back within the 8 months (september 18). I would like to go back to show my face to everyone, talk about my situation and make sure I can continue renting until I can take care of everything, store my stuff or send it over or whatever. Now I might have to do that by telephone. So the threat hanging over my head of losing my belongings if the corporation takes action was the financial reason I asked expedite on. On the USCIS site one of the reasons to apply for expedite is Severe financial loss to company or person; I felt my situation applied to that.

It all sounds very fishy. Maybe it's worth contacting a Rechtswinkel and ask them for advice.

I can't imagine that they can even start talking about these things when you've haven't been out of the country for 8 months out of the year.

Good luck and hang in there!

I am from the Czech Republic and I have never heard of this before. It sounds like a BS. I have lived outside of my country for nearly 5 YEARS. 2 years here in the USA, couple months in UK, nearly two years in Dubai, UAE and since February I have been in the States. Never, even once I heard this, never I have had a problem with the fact I have not LIVED there for nearly 5 years. I know MANY and MANY people from my country who have lived here for yeeeeeaaaaars and still are citizens. Some even dual. So this just does not sound right. Edited by Miki28

It all sounds very fishy. Maybe it's worth contacting a Rechtswinkel and ask them for advice.

I can't imagine that they can even start talking about these things when you've haven't been out of the country for 8 months out of the year.

Good luck and hang in there!

Thank you Yongma, that's a good idea, I hadn't thought of it. I will certainly inquire.

The next text is in Dutch for your information; if I can find it in English I'll post it.

"Je bent wettelijk verplicht je uit te schrijven bij je gemeente als je meer dan 8 maanden naar het buitenland gaat. Het blijkt echter dat lang niet alle gemeentes op de hoogte zijn van deze regel! Sommige gemeenten hanteren 6 maanden en andere 12 maanden." Helaas is mijn gemeente op de hoogte.

The European Union does not requires you to be present in the country 8 months out of the year. A citizen of a country will remain a citizen, even if they decide to live outside the country.

I might be wrong though...

I might have written that in a confusing way. In the Netherlands you are required to be in the country 8 months out of 12 to be able to have your name registered in the city's or town's registers. If you are away longer, you have to take your name out of the city's or town register. They say this might be so people can't abuse the system. It doesn't have consequences for your citizenship; you'll remain a citizen but without an address. It does have consequences for health insurance, taxes, renting a house and a lot of other stuff.

I thought this to be a European thing but perhaps it's only in the Netherlands.

I am from the Czech Republic and I have never heard of this before. It sounds like a BS. I have lived outside of my country for nearly 5 YEARS. 2 years here in the USA, couple months in UK, nearly two years in Dubai, UAE and since February I have been in the States. I know MANY and MANY people from my country who have lived here for yeeeeeaaaaars and still are citizens. Some even dual. So this just does not sound right.

Miki, as I said to Alimanu it's not about the citizenship but about being able to have my official address in the Netherlands. Perhaps the Czech Republic has different rules.

This strange rule makes things quite complicated for me at the moment.

It's not BS, but it's a little different. As a EU citizen, if you leave the country for more than 8 months you have to go to your town hall or whichever service where you'd normally go when you move, and get, what we call in Dutch "written out". Y9u will always stay a citizen (even if you don't renew your passport) but you cannot keep an address in your country if you leave for more than 8 months at the time. Yes you might physically be able to, but you are not supposed to. I assume that is what Soley means. When I moved I had to get a model 8 in the town hall, to change my address in the belgian embassy here in VA, and my address got changed in my belgian passport. If I would have moved for less than 8 months, that would not have been necessary.

Oh soley, you beat me to it, haha!

On August 26, 2016, we sent a response to your inquiry about the status of your Employment Authorization application, referral number TMSC.

This sounds like somebody looked at your case in response to a Service Request. I saw the same message when an 'approaching regulatory timeframe' SR was conducted for my EAD. You may receive the response by email if you gave them your email address when you submitted the request. If you didn't then I'd assume you'd receive the response by letter, though I got mine by email which I received a few hours after the service request was completed. The email read as follows (in addition to a long blurb with the standard identifying information about my case; i.e. filing date, case number, etc etc):

The status of this service request is:

Your case is currently under review. You should receive a decision or notice of other action shortly.

Notably, I am under the impression that "shortly" doesn't mean a few hours but that it just happens to be coincidental that people submit their Service Review and then are approved within a few hours or few days (I received approval a few hours after but I honestly think this was just by chance and I wouldn't want anybody to get their hopes up that the completed Service Request will speed their cases up). Others on the forums have mentioned that 'shortly' is just standard wording and could mean days or a week (basically, anytime within the 90 day timeframe). Hopefully, it'll be sooner rather than later though!

Simon.

Yesterday my EAD / AP combo card arrived!! My husband and I were soo happy, we went out to celebrate!

Hope everyone is having a good day! Sending good vibes to everyone!

That is excellent news! My EAD is on the way, I'm assuming that it'll be a combocard with multientry AP :) I guess I'll find out tomorrow when it arrives!

It should be noted that it took two days from "Card was mailed to me" to turn into "Card was picked up by the United States Postal Service". Only in the latter update did I receive a tracking number. I had actually already gotten the tracking number from the USPS Dashboard that I linked to a few page ago and that others have mentioned too.

I get the feeling that the USPS picks up post from the USCIS EAD card production facility (located in Corbin, KY if you're interested) once a day. From looking at the case tracker, I saw that some people had "Card was mailed to me" earlier in the day than me and presumably their cards got into the post that day whereas mine waited an extra day because it missed that day's post. My card is being shipped using USPS's 2 Day Priority Shipping product with tracking. Was picked up by USPS on Thursday and due for delivery on Saturday.

Simon.

Notably, I am under the impression that "shortly" doesn't mean a few hours but that it just happens to be coincidental that people submit their Service Review and then are approved within a few hours or few days (I received approval a few hours after but I honestly think this was just by chance and I wouldn't want anybody to get their hopes up that the completed Service Request will speed their cases up). Others on the forums have mentioned that 'shortly' is just standard wording and could mean days or a week (basically, anytime within the 90 day timeframe). Hopefully, it'll be sooner rather than later though!

Simon.

Thank you Simon. Yes i gave them my email address when i submitted the request.

Hopefully my approval will follow soon :clock:
