OK. I contacted USCIS today, and as I suspected, the 10-year green card is in fact a MISTAKE!!!!

I now have to fill out another form (I-90), send it to MSC along with my greencard, and make an infopass appointment in Denver to get a temporary stamp in my passport. So much for good luck!

Thanks to all who replied.

Dean

:) There must be some bozo at CSC issuing 10-year cards to everybody. Seriously.

Glad you were able to fix that! :)

Filed AOS from F-1
Green Card approved on 01/04/07
Conditions removed 01/29/09

Citizenship Oath 08/23/12

Wow.

Well, it's just as we suspected. What a colossal mistake though!

Deano, you were wise to follow up on this. I'm really glad you were pro-active about it.

Reminds me of the old saying we used to read on VJ all the time - EVERY PETITIONER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN CASE.

The experience of others has been that it is OK to leave the card as is; it is sufficient evidence of her PR status.

Use the date on the front (resident since..) to calculate (using a date calculator online) to find the 90-day window before it expires.

In that 90 days, probably better earlier than later for you, file I-751 as normal, sending a copy of the card as required.

The poster SecretGarden (at avum-b ) said CIS never made a peep and simply produced the new card.
