What if you were the adorable receptionist in an office where there seemed to be 2 clear "sides" and you were in the middle and both sides were trying to sway you....into hating the other? I'm trying to be neutral, but being neutral puts me right in the middle of all their drama and I'm sick of it. I don't want to take sides. I just started here, I wouldn't even know which side to take! I like both! This sucks. I'm the 4th receptionist here...the girl before me left in tears after 3 days and never came back. I don't want to be that girl. :wacko:

The upside to this job: I have time to study.

5/23/03: Justin arrives to visit me in IA from SK.
6/7/03: We got married!
8/23/03: Filed I-130 from SK
8/25/03: Phoned border guards & asked if J could escort me back to IA, yes.
8/26/03: Arrive in IA
8/27/03: Went to USCIS local office to ask if J could stay in the US and file papers, yes
2004: I-130 approved!
6/05: Filed AOS/EAD
7/2/05: Rec'd receipt for I-485
8/05: Rec'd RFE for Biometrics
9/9/05: Rec'd RFE for medical
12/2/06: EAD APPROVED!
12/5/06: EAD card rec'd
1/15/06: AOS interview date for 4/11/06 at 11:00 a.m.
4/11/06: APPROVED!!!!!! NO MORE USCIS FOR 10 YEARS!!! WOOHOO!!! 2016...seems more like a page # than a year. Haha.

Just ignore them, and be professional about your position. As an engineer, I have to follow a list of ethical guideline. Any social favoring is not part of that ethics, and I can loose my license. You must follow ethics.

I'd tell each of them you're not interested in office politics and to leave you out of it. Then stick your adorable nose in your schoolbooks, where it belongs. (But what does being adorable have to do with it?)

Yes, thanks. I wish I could just drop their drama, but it is actually preventing me to do my job in some cases and it feels beyond my control. I can't prevent my bosses from hating one another. It's so frustrating. I just need to learn to stand up for myself better, I guess.

Dahling, being adorable has everything to do with it. Work your charm and don't commit. You are at their mercy, so brushing them off and acting like you're above their petty office drama (which you are, if only they knew...) isn't going to work. I was once in a similar situation. Just be charming to both sides and don't commit to saying anything bad about either side. That was what worked for me.

Those of us who've had experience in such situations know we cannot just happily ignore it, do our work and normally function in an office where such disruptive politics are going on. The pressure is suffocating. I tried for months but finally left. In fact my last day was on Friday. :D I don't need such tension in my life. Good luck to you. :thumbs:
