True story - my family is contemplating moving and as part of that process pre-applied for a mortgage. As part of the application, we had to supply proof that my wife is a permanent resident. Of course, all we had was an expired GC and an extension letter which required a lot of 'dancing around' to explain what it meant. If I had gotten an I-551 passport stamp and had to surrendered the GC it would have been even more difficult to satisfy the loan underwriters as they have no idea what a I-551 stamp means. They actually demanded copies of the I-751 to 'prove' that we were in the process of getting a 10-year green card. 

 

So no, waiting 2 years for your GC to be renewed is not okay. At least not with me.

You do understand that a green card is an I551 right. And if any mortgage company refuses to recognise your I551 then this is an offence. Is basically the same as refusing to recognise your passport. In this situation you get your lawyer to write a very stern letter to the mortgage underwriters and remind them of their responsibilities. 

 

I will stand by this until I'm blue in the face. Your status is not affected! If any organisation doubts your green card, have your lawyer intervene. A I551 is a green card. 

You guys are driving me crazy. Grow some balls and take some responsibility for your lives. 

How do you all even walk out the door without collapsing in a heap?

Don't be so hard on him. Nobody uses term I-551 on a daily basis, even immigration officers. Everybody says GC, so most of the people have no idea that I-551=GC.

I think its all a bit of a show tbh, and we just have to let the process take its course. 

 

For all those who are stressing or having a panic, I would reiterate that your status as a permanent resident is not under threat.  USCIS are very clear that your status remains intact for the entire process.  It may need a stamp in the passport if you need to travel, or show ID for a drivers licence, but USCIS have to give you the extension stamp at the infopass appointment - I have yet to hear of anyone being refused a stamp within 1 month of the GC extension expiry date. 

And if anyone is worried that you will be refused entry at the PoE with a stamp, the worst case scenario is that you will be taken into a secondary questioning area, where they do go and look at your case status with USCIS and the computer will say that you have an extension, and you will be admitted with no issues.  Again, I have not heard of anyone with a valid I551 extension being refused entry on this point alone, at the PoE. 

 

So please don't worry - It is frustrating, but you will all get there.  Hope we all get good messages soon!!!!  

Must be true, mine is june 8th, day after the cut off date of june 7th. And some people further in june dates got approved already.

On a positive note, just filed for citizenship yesterday. At least I can still do that!

I have an info pass next week... my extension expires only at the end of the next month though.

I've been in and out of the country with no issues but last time. It was two weeks ago when the officer told me to check it out, or do something about it. He let me go without further checking because I was with my baby. 

I may travel again for the 4th of July and will use that as an argument to get the stamp, let see if works.

Hello All,

 

I've been reading this thread for over a month now and seeing the progress of I751 June 2016 filers.

I wanted to let you know that finally after waiting for almost a year, today i received approval notice on ROC. No RFE, No Interview and Online status has not changed either.  

Below are my stats -

VSC June 2016 filer.

Application filed - 6/27/2016

NOA1 - 6/29/2016

Biometrics date - 8/22/2016

NOA2 - Approval notice received on - 06/9/2017

I apologise to Jim - my frustrations weren't really aimed at him, more a general rant.   It's more all the endless confusion and worry over the I551. Anyway I had a frustrating night and morning, and was in a feisty mood. 

I just had a large G&T, feeling calm and toasting all you lucky so & so's who got your cards already. 

 

Karma is gonna be a now and bite me on the ### over this and I'll get some I551 grief hahahaha

I wouldnt stress too much, the stamp is fancy for sure and the officer also wrote understandable details underneath.

 

Also, have you guys/gals checked how much these people make? I did a couple of days ago and its not a whole lot.
