I have seen a lot of people say they will do it, but I have not yet seen anyone say that they did it, and it worked out just fine -- although I assume it will for many. We'll just have to wait and see. I don't think people in years past ever encountered this problem.

One question I hope a few people can confirm. You say that your 2 year card was dated 6.29.2014. My understanding is that you can file NOT MORE THAN 90 days BEFORE three years AFTER this date. So three years after would be 6.29.2017, and subtracting 3 months from this would be MARCH 29, 2017. So you could send in your N-400 on about 3.30.2017. Does that sound right? Why do you say end of April?

Thank you for your reply. I hope people who have applied will update their N-400 experience while the I-751 is pending.

My apologies usc85, my 2 year card was July 29, 2014. Not June. So that made me eligible April 29, 2017. I want to apply for the N-400 now but I am so torn and don't know what to do since the wait time now is between 1 to 1.5 years for I-751 to get approved. Part of me thinks apply now and as soon as I-751 is approved, they will schedule the N-400 interview. Overall this might be faster than waiting to apply till after the I-751 is approved. Also, if the N-400 backlog starts because of a lot of I-751 pending applicants applying, might as well get ahead of the line, right?

I don't see any harm in filing the N-400, as you say, your date will be earlier rather than later. Later, when you're outside of normal processing times on the N-400, you can file a service request and get it expedited ;)

Also, I didn't realize there was an interview for citizenship. Is that always the case, or just some of the time? Interesting.

Finally, I wanted to note something for all of us which I'm PRETTY SURE is correct regarding the one year extension stamp. This stamp is a proof of status -- it does not determine your status. So my thought is that while us proactive and responsible filers on VJ will all be going to get stamps, I can imagine there are thousands and thousands of people out there who simply have no clue what to do, and will simply let their green cards expire (many of these people probably won't even notice or anything). I have to imagine that not having the stamp will have no impact whatsoever on the I-751 processing, or N-400 processing. The only thing it would affect is your ability to travel overseas and return without a MAJOR headache. As some posters have mentioned, your active PR status (CR status to be technical) shows in USCIS computers, and it isn't suddenly taken away the day you go over your extension letter and you haven't gotten a stamp. If anyone has comments about this, please feel free to add to the discussion, but based on reading a bunch of threads and websites, I think we needn't be so concerned about stamps. I WOULD like to hear from someone with an expired letter who went to get a stamp after the fact. That would be good to know, for those who have trouble making infopass appointments in the allotted 30 days before letter expiration. In any case, out of an abundance of caution, my wife and I will be going to get her stamp as soon as the 30 days before expiry. window opens :D

Update:   Check the case status on line today; actually saw a different message, it said:

New Card Is Being Produced

On May 3, 2017, we ordered your new card for Receipt Number WACXXXXXXXXXX, and will mail it to the address you gave us. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

So if this is true, then the process to being approved took 11 Months & 2 Days.  It's the 4th of May so we'll see how long it takes to actually get the card. But from what this says, this to means approved and  will be mailed.   Sure is taking a long time.

I don't know if you travelled outside the US or not, but it's not just about US officers who check your papers upon arrival. You're not gonna get a boarding pass for your flight to the US if you're not gonna show appropriate document.

Maybe you finally will, after hours of waiting and hundreds of phone calls. But it's gonna cost you a flight if you have for example short layover. And it's gonna be only your fault.

So it's stupid if all your docs expired or they are about to expire and you leave the country without any backup.

Hi guys, i have a question, please. My passport expired in March and I'm not able to apply for a new one, but my extension letter will expire next month on June 06. I will make an infopass for I 551 stamp, but they will accept my expired passport? :|

thank you

No, they won't put the stamp in the expired passport. What you need to do is bring 2 passport style photos with you to the infopass and they will produce a different document and probably take your old conditional green card away. The new document will suffice for proof of status until the stamp expires (usually another year) or until you get your new green card.

Is your timeline updated?

Even though Visa Journey members alone do not by any means represent the amount of approvals the service centers process each month, looks like in the last couple of months here on VJ we've had five approvals per month. Hopefully this will start to increase as our wait times approach the one year mark!

This was the California Service Center CSC. At least we have a gauge to go by, they sure wait until the last moment on these cards.   Once we get the new card in the mail, I'll post yet another update.

This has been an patience trying experience.  They should have a system where it shows where our applications are in the process... Like a time line.. what a concept.  Such as received, checked in, in holding, assigned, processing, etc....
