Yes as mentioned make an infopass appointment and get the stamp. They won't have any issue doing this, but your green card will be (should be, not always for some reason) taken away from you.

The stamp is a valid I551 - the same as a green card - also an I551 - so you can travel and work without any drama.

If anyone gives you drama and questions it's validity, point them to USCIS website to educate themselves, but PoE officers know what the stamp is and won't give you any flack.

my card and extension letter were returned to me

Hey, thanks a lot, will start looking for appointments tonight.

I notice you list Frederick as where you live - actually I got my infopass appointment at Washington DC - the office is right off the beltway on the VA side in Fairfax, so easy to get to. Also consider Baltimore and Philly. Look after midnight as that is when they release appointments for 14 days later and they get snapped up quick. But also keep checking every day - as I bagged an appointment 48 hours later when I went online and spotted a slot was available.

Note the DC office in Fairfax has big notices up saying "we don't accept walk-in's" but when I was there, people were definitely "walking in" as the bossy receptionist was making people without appointments stand along a wall and feel guilty about not having appointments - but then let them in - after people with appointments had been let through - so I guess it depends how brave you are feeling.

Once in the door, the DC staff were super nice and as helpful as they could be.  Good luck!

That's why I said "not always".  The officer who took mine said it is an official guideline to take the expired document from you.

As we all know with USCIS, rules and regs are not always followed to the letter......   🙄🙄😝

Hey thanks again..there is info pass appointment in pittsburg for AUG 7, I am surprised to see that opening because they always say on website to have dates for 14 days later, but my next week is horribly busy, so I am on website like a hawk looking for either weekend or Aug 20 or Aug 21 (hopefully I can get it before Aug 22)

I am an August filer. My NOA is 8/8/2016. I got my info pass done by 7/17 a few weeks ago, got my 551 extended for a year and they didn't take my conditional green card. If you are a VSC filer, then you will probably be approved soon, so you should be hearing from them soon if you are a June filer. VSC has not slowed down, it has always taken VSC about a one or a bit over a year and this year is no different, but for CSC, it usually processes faster than VSC, but not this year, it has been kind of stalled and they have stuck processing mid to late June fliers, obviously they have not even touched July filers. Good luck, I think you will be fine, I am filing my 400 early next week.

Been watching this forum for awhile but this is my first post. Just wanted to add our status for the forum tracking purposes.  We were approved on August 3. We submitted ours 413 days ago on June 15 2016. My husbands extension expiration date was August 15. We went in for an infopass appointment on August 2  because at that point we haven't heard anything. His case was pending.  After getting the stamp, the infopass agent told us that his application was actually on a uscis agent's desk  waiting for processing. Then the next day we got the text amd email notices that his 751 was approved. Except for the wait time it was  fairly easy. Even infopass here in Seattle was a breeze.

No worries, ask whatever you need to - is why we are all here!

I went online on the morning of June 3rd and found an appointment at the DC office on the morning of the 5th June - I happen to be in the DC area visiting friends so it all worked out ok. The office was very quiet, and I was seen pretty much straight away.  I guess it was a cancellation as it was a lone appointment on its own - so I lucked out.  So I would keep checking regularly.

I got the stamp, because I was going to be traveling when my GC extension expired, in Russia, so I didn't want to get stranded!!

I just had a quick look for you and there are quite a few appointments available in Dover, DE which I think is probably a bit closer than Pittsburg, on August 18, if that helps.

Nothing else has happened with my case, but I guess it is down the pile in the June 22 ish dates, so I would guess another few weeks at least.

I have my I551 stamp in my passport so I'm not really worried - I'm currently dealing with a family emergency in the UK at the moment, and will return to the USA early September.  I know I am in status, I have the proof, so I'm not in a panic, or in any rush, and I don't plan to file a N400 until end of the year. I'm in an ok position - but I know that isn't the case for all of you - just my situation.

Let us know how you get on!

I can see from the latest posts on this forum that June filers in CSC are getting faster responses  now and it has reached the second half of the month.

Based on shared experience in this forum, I have applied for infopass as well as N400 as I am approaching the cusp of extension expiry and N400 eligibility.

Dates and details.

CSC Notice date : 7/1/16 filer.

Card Expiration : 9/20/16 +1 yr extension = 9/20/17.

Infopass appointment 8/10/17

Sent out my N400 Last week.

I have a couple of questions:

- Is it necessary to show travel plans to get i-751 during infopass as I am 50 days away from the expiration based on the NOA date? I am planning to travel internationally but haven't purchased the ticket yet.

- Anyone else has any experience and comments on traveling outside country while your N400 application transfers your I-751 to local office with or without i-751 stamp?

Thank you in advance.

No, you do not have to show any travel plans.

When I did my infopass in July, I took my travel itinerary in case they asked why I wanted a stamp.

When I arrived at the USCIS office, they took one look at my infopass letter and said - "Here's another one for the I551 stamp" and shoooed me into a waiting room where I met the officer and got the stamp.

I have a feeling the USCIS field offices are getting used to seeing - Infopass I751 appointment = I551 stamp - and its becoming a formality, so don't lose any sleep over this - just go in and ask for the stamp, and the new I551 shall be yours!

Thank you in advance.

Just in reference to your last question, as long as your I751 has not been adjudicated you continue to be a US Permanent Resident.

I'm sorry if I get a bit testy about this, but the point has been made time and time and time again on this forum, in this thread, and others.

Your status does not change until they adjudicate your I751.  If you need to travel outside the USA, get a new I551 stamp in your passport - that is exactly the same as a green card, and you should make an infopass appointment asap to get one if you know you are travelling.

Your N400 has zero to do with this process.

Now if you apply for N400 and your I751 has not been adjudicated, and your N400 comes up for adjudication, the officer, in your local office, will see this, and they will adjudicate your I751 there and then, on the spot.  (If its a no.  Bye bye.  Pack ur bags. Ur out of here - call ur lawyer time).  If its a yes, they will then flip the page, and say right - now your N400.  And adjudicate that. And if all is good, say - now answer these 10 questions - etc.

I hope that makes the process clearer in your head - I'm just hear to help.  I'm sorry if I'm abrupt or a bit harsh,  but immigration isn't something to be made flowery or lovely, just plain facts.
