Absolutely Jimmy! We are all LPR's until they say we aren't. So the endless stressing on here really is for nothing, and a waste of energy. 

 

Unless you have a really quirky situation, I encourage you to post here as many people here are super knowledgeable and will guide you, like RFE's, long time out of normal processing etc. 

 

otherwise - just go with the flow guys!! Good things will come!

We we live in different worlds.  I have a kid; you don't. If my wife doesn't get permanent residency I will have to leave the US and live in a foreign country.  So don't tell me to go with the flow. Really. You don't get to tell us how to feel.

Hi Jim, 

I know the wait is painful, we all know. But really, look at it this way, your wife already got her green card 2 years ago which means USA believes your marriage to your wife is legit. 

Nothing has changed! This I 751 is to make sure USA didn't make a mistake last time, and I'm sure they didn't. You and your wife are still together, and now have a kid! You're in a very good situation here, because your case is simple and straightforward. I know the wait hurts, but trust me, you have nothing to worry about, Its extremely unlikely that you'd have to go live in a foreign country. 

Try to keep your mind somewhere else for a bit, and the approval will be there before you know it!

Jim - I don't get to tell you how to feel, but I get to be a bit frustrated when you get in a flap about something that hasn't changed, in any way. LPR before application. LPR after application.

 

What about my I551 status is so different to your wife's during this process? You say it's a different world. Explain? Because as far as I can see my status doesn't change during the process, and neither does your wife's status. 

 

I I think maybe you are getting 2 issues confused. Namely current status, and what the result of adjudication might be.

 

I'm talking about the I751 process. During the process your I551 is not at risk, until it is adjudicated. It's that simple.  

 

Now if your case is full of holes and your wife doesn't get residency, that's a whole different matter, and you can feel worried and stressed about the result, but Im not talking about that. 

 

So why waste energy on something you have no control over? You just tie yourself in knots. You sent your evidence package, filled out the forms. Done your best. 

So why kill yourself with the stress? 

 

Listen Jim - I have plenty to lose too if mine doesn't go through. My houses, my business, relationships with my whole in law family in the USA, a whole world of craziness. I guess I prefer to focus on right here right now rather than waste valuable energy on something I have no control over.

 

So tell us what about the no risk to status that is worrying you so much, and maybe some of us can give you help and advice to reassure you and your wife that there is no threat to her status during this process. 

Im sure others feel the same stress so it may be a good exercise if others have experience in showing extensions letters or I551 stamps to employers or DMV offices to renew licenses etc, and how well it went, or didn't. It may help others, and calm some fears. That is why we are all here isn't it? Share experiences, help others. I'm not telling you how to feel, just help you to try to prationalize the fears and help ease them. 

 

I'll start. 

Yesterday I flew London to Philadelphia, expired I551 card, extension letter in hand, dated 1 year and 1 day after my NOA, but within 12 months of I551 expiry + 1 year (extension letter). 

Airline (AA) didn't blink, and CBP in the USA didn't blink upon arrival either. Showed all documents (passport, expired I551 card and extension letter) - welcome back said CBP officer.

Thank you. And I understand the frustration about CSC. When I applied last June with VSC, I tried my best to mentally prepare that it will at least take till this June to hear back. But if I lived in the west coast and filed at CSC, I would be super frustrated because I would have expected to get approved in Feb or earlier and then they we see them come to a grinding halt. I hope we all get approved within the next few weeks. 

 

This is slightly off topic but here is a recommendation for anybody who reads this and occasionally I see this issue pop up on this thread. There is a simple solution to avoid any confusion with employers during the I-751 process. It might be too late for most of us here but please pass along the information and help new filers.

 

1. The problem for us is most of our social security cards have or had one of the following, 

(1) NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT

(2) VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTORIZATION

(3) VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTORIZATION

 

2. Many people are not informed that you can get that removed from your SSN card as soon as you get your 2-year green card. 

 

3. So once I got the 2 year card, about a yea later, I went to SSN and got a new card without that on it. This way, if you are switching jobs during the during the I-751 process, you won't have any issue.

 

4. I have observed that many employers don't understand the one year extension letter we get. By getting the new SSN card, you can use your driver's license or state ID and the SSN card for your I-9 employment form. From what I understand, the employer cannot ask you to show your expired 2-year card or the 1 year extension letter because you are responsible for the first part of the form and the employer is only required to fill out the second part.

I wish I knew the answer. I'm not sure how important it is to have a letter. I always keep all my Notices of Action. The only thing I can tell you is what's in that letter. They list: File Number (just a bunch of numbers, maybe it's an internal reference), Date of Decision, New Classification Symbol (IR6, I think it means Immediate Relative), Admission date (original date of my conditional green card in 2014). Then there is a body of the letter. "congrats! You have been approved. You are deemed to be a lawful permanent resident of the US as of the date of your original admission or adjustment of status." Then more blurb about mailing the card and a mailer, form I-797D with important information about the status, responsibilities, and perm resident services available to me.

Not fast enough! I'm a 7/11/2016 VSC filer but can apply for N-400 anytime after 7/4/2017. Debating whether I should wait or just go ahead and file...

I just got approved, and I could have applied for N400 on June 10. If I was you I'd wait, I-751 takes one year anyway, it took me 352 days to get approved. Just try to be patient, you're very close!

Thanks for the encouraging words  I will probably wind up filing N-400 by late July if I don't hear anything by then. Maybe reaching out to congressmen by mid-July would be good. Last time my I-130 took 1.5 years, I'm hoping it's faster this time

file n-400 online! you have nothing to lose.
