I got my info pass this morning in Phoenix,  AZ. The lady at USCIS doubted about stamp so she went in the back to check something.

5 min later she came back and said she will provide me with a stamp.

so she took my old GC and original of NOA. She said infopass is valid for 6 months. So I can travel outside of the US without problems.

Who knows how long I have to wait till I will receive my new GC. Honestly, this process is a pain.

I totally agree. We got the stamp for 1 year (till june of 2018).

Thanks for passing on your experience.

We're traveling to the PH again in December. If the new GC hasn't arrived before that we'll get the I-551 stamp and surrender the old GC. I'll hold off for as long as possible, however.

I would wait too, but I will travel outside of the US next month. So I was worrying I won't get my GC and probably I will not.

What you say make perfect legal sense. But ICE agents aren't legal experts and seeing even an expired GC at least means that you were ONCE a legal resident.  You could then argue about your extension letter and make your case. With the I-551 stamp you might have to pay a visit to a detention center before things get sorted out. You'll be good in the end but it won't be a pleasant experience.

I'm admittedly talking worst case scenarios here, but there have been ICE roundups here so I'm not being totally paranoid. I think the USCIS should cut new GCs for the 1-year extension. Then there would be no ambiguity.

Jim

The letter is the most confusing. It says date extended from the date of letter, it does not say the letter extends the date from the GC expiration date, in our case it would be SEP of this year. But since the letter does not state that, after reading the letter, any person will deduce the letter is expiring end of June. Thats the reason why we got the stamp.

I think it is harder to explain one's situation with an expired GC and a letter that sounds like it is expiring after one year from the day it was dated.

We traveled to India , with the letter beginning of this year. We had some trouble, since many officers in INDIA and all were seeing this letter for the first time. Now imagine if we had to travel with this same letter after June. So we didn't want to take any chance.

I hope this makes sense ;-)

Good for you. The lady said if I won't get my GC within 6 months I will have to come back and get another stamp.

i wonder why she did give a year. But they make their own rules. Lol

Don't get me wrong - you're doing the right thing. For historical reasons I have zero confidence in the extension letter while traveling.  Have a safe trip!

Dont worry, we should hear something within the coming 2-3 months for sure. June filers are already moving, I wont be surprised if we get something this month itself. So 6 months is more than enough.

Trust me, a stamp on the passport (looks very official) is much more legit looking than a letter outside of USA. Airport officials in INDIA and all very hard to convince using that letter. Not impossible, but hard and nerve wreaking.

So what is the latest day processed for June 2016. I've seen up to June 17th if I recall correctly and that was a Friday.

My friend has a date of June 20th which should be the next day. Do they jump around the month as far as dates are concerned or do they do thhem

in order by date received?

any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

They're supposed to process them by date received. But it often doesn't work that way. My theory is that each officer takes a stack of them and works through that stack by date, but some officers work faster (or slower) than others, and sometimes an officer will get a stack that's out of order - so on average they're roughly in date order, but it's not terribly consistent (kind of like everything else in this process!)

Pretty much as I thought. I wasn't sure as far as their track record goes how they progress through the petitions. I know some will be out of order because not everyone is due for an interview etc.

but as far as people getting approved without an interview....if they are slightly inconsistent with those, then mehhhhh 😂
