So I know this has been asked many times but I have seen several different answers. How do you write two last names, specifically Brazilian last names, on form i-129f and other documents? What's the best thing to do

My fiancé is Brazilian and has two last names (First name, maternal last name, paternal last name), as does his son. Is it best to write just the paternal last name on form i-129f and other forms and just explain their full names in the cover letter? Or do I include the two last names under "other names used" or just include both last names under "last name"

How have people done it recently and will the way you write it affect US documents (SSN etc)?

Thanks!

My fiancé has 4 names as well (his fathers last name, and his mothers maiden last name), here's an example of how we did it

Smith ----- Freddy ------- John Jacob

_________________________ ----- _______________________------ ______________________

Last. Middle. First

So his name would be John Jacob Freddy Smith

In Brazil we don't seem to have middle names, or we don't really have a separation. At least that's how the passport issuing authority goes by.

Example: I have 4 names, Ana Maria Souza da silva (not my real name). Ana Maria is considered my name, it's not a first and middle name, it's my name. Souza was my mothers last name, silva was my fathers. My last name (family name) is both names together, souza da silva.

My passport shows:

Given name: Ana Maria

Family name: Souza da silva

I filled all my forms following my passport, which is my official form of identification around here. First name= given name, middle name= I leave blank or put n/a depending what instructions says, last name= family name.

I'm from the Philippines, now a USC, my whole family except my dad has the same middle and last name. That's how we fooled out all our forms.

Our first name is our given name, no matter how long it is, it could be Maria Alex or maria Emma Alexa

Our middle name is our mother's Maiden name, Dela Cruz

Our last name is our father's last name, Mendoza.

So, i write my name as maria emma alexa DC Mendoza.

Hope this helps

Bit late on this, but my fiance is Peruvian. On his Peruvian passport he has

Names : Jose Carlos

Family Name: Garcia Lopez

What I put on US forms:

First name: Jose Carlos

Middle: N/A or None or Leave Blank

Last name: Garcia Lopez

I might have put "Carlos" as a middle name, but since he actually goes by "Carlos" and not "Jose", I thought it might be easier to have them together under the first name.

(Not his real names, of course ...)
