I just chose the agent for my husband. Can I pay the AOS fees now?

Did you get your DS-261 reviewed yet? If so, you can pay the AOS, but it's not available until the form has been reviewed.

Not true. You can pay the AOS fee when you receive the AOS fee invoice (located in NVC's first email they send to you). It's the IV fee that doesn't get invoiced until after the DS-261 is reviewed. They should pay the AOS fee and call to get the DS-261 reviewed over the phone, then they'll get the IV fee invoice a day or two later. Once both fees show as Paid in CEAC, then the DS-260 is available to be filled out/completed. Edited by B&Z

Hopefully it comes soon. Did you include a letter from your family that you will stay with them in the US till you get your own place? If yes did they get the signature notarized?

I did get a letter but I didn't have it notarized ?.... hopefully today I'll get some news.

My bad, you're right! It's the IV I meant. Technically, you can pay the AOS before filling out the DS-261 then, correct? I'm a bit mad at the moment because I still don't have the tracking number for our AOS & IV paperwork, I need to chill a bit and not think about visa stuff :cry:

That's correct, the DS-261 and AOS fee aren't connected to each other, so the order you do them in doesn't really matter. You just can't pay the AOS fee until after NVC sends you the first email, but you can complete the DS-261 as soon as you can log in to CEAC (with case number and IIN).

@B&Z: Thanks for the confirmation!

While I remember it: How do yo handle Umlauts for the DS-260? Do you change them into non-umlauf form (such as ä -> ae and ö -> oe) or do you leave them as they are?

Also, there's a question (on page 64 of the sample document, second from the bottom): It says: "Do you seek to enter the United States for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor but have not yet been certified by the Secretary of Labor?" - What do I reply there, yes or no??? I am at a loss, because of course I want to work when I'm there , and I haven't been certified yet, so do I click yes? I don't even know where and how I could get that certification from?!

And i called nvc yesterday they told me that they recieved the aos and IV documents on 9th. When asked about the scan email they say that they are facing issues with the emails. But the wierd part here is that we sent the paperwork and by tracking the package i see that the UPS delivered thm on 9th..are nvc so fast that the paperwork was scanned in their system on the same day they recieved it. So does this mean my scan day is on 9th?

Quick question our joint sponsor will be sending her I864 to me this week. I just checked the instructions but just to double check the Case number (that we got from NVC) does not go in the form it goes on top of the page (we write it in)? Right?

I'm not too sure about what to do with umlauts. The DS-260 will tell you not to enter any special characters, but you have to match the beneficiary's name with their passport, so I'd suggest just writing ä as a, ö as o, etc, HOWEVER, I defer to anyone else who has had experience with filling out that portion of the DS-260 with regard to umlauts.

As for that question about skilled labor, if you're coming into the US on a spouse, fiance, or other family-based visa, the answer to this question is NO. Your real purpose of coming to the US is to reunite with your family/spouse. This question is more for people who are applying for a work visa.
