hello everyone,

I really need your help here. My hubby was told in his interview yesterday to get a new joint sponsor because our sponsor has already sponsored too many people in the past. They kept his passport and told him as soon as he submits a new sponsor, they will give his passport back within 10 days. However, I recently got a new full time job and my income will be above 125% of poverty guidelines this year. Should I email the embassy and explain them with the proof of my recent pay stubs? or should I just try to find a new sponsor? I am honestly finding it very difficult to find a sponsor for him.:cry::cry:

Hi Noorie,

I hate that you have gotten this terrible setback from the embassy but trust that it is exactly as they have said - get a NEW sponsor and the visa will be issued. They kept the passport so that was a good thing. If you are saying that you're having difficulty in sourcing a new joint sponsor, you can try emailing the embassy like you said and explain your financial situation....maybe...just maybe they might consider your husband's case with this new development. It never hurts to ask.

Best of luck to you and don't stress out over this....this too shall pass!

So my husband got his visa but they listed his entire name under surname and listed his given name as FNU. I had them fix it that at the NVC stage and they assured me it would print with his correct first name but it printed on the visa this way. His passport also lists his entire name under surname and given name is blank.

How can this be fixed? I told him to call the embassy but will they keep it that way because his passport lists it that way?

When he arrives in th US I don't want his IDs to say FNU as his first name when he has one.

Any thoughts? Does e have to change his passport in order to correct it? Will his green card lists it as FNU well when that arrives?

Hi Liny,

There is an indication that the visa will be printed with the name stated EXACTLY as it is in the passport. I think you should email the embassy with the info that you had NVC correct the info prior to the interview. Good luck in any event! :)

Really ? That means should I start to get an appointment for medical and vaccination before end of the month or should I wait for the interview letter ?

Hi Sameer143,

Setting up the medical appointment varies for every embassy - some request that you have the actual interview letter in hand OR some just tell you to come without asking for the letter. You can contact the immigration physician in your country to confirm what they require.

In any event, what others have mentioned to you is true....the 6mths validity period to enter the US starts on the date your medical was done. Please bear in mind that the interview can go either way. By this I mean that you can end up getting 221(g) for additional docs and then you check the time it will take you to gather the additional info the embassy may require. Then there's the 221(g) with no docs requested but simply for the DOS to make further determinations on your case. If it comes to the point where your visa approval takes longer than the 6mths, then when they decide to grant the approval you will have to redo a medical :)

I hope I was able to shed some light on this situation for you

Hi guys and gals,

Sorry I have not been on as regular as I should be....post-visa approval tends to become quite busy; especially after I spent the weekend relaxing on the beach :D:goofy: Congrats to all those with approvals, those with Case completes (welcome, welcome...to our madhouse :girlwerewolf2xn:) and to those who are waiting - hang in there, your time is coming!

So just to update you, got our visas in hand yesterday and my husband was too excited so he went ahead and paid the green card fees last night! My kids are now referring to each other as aliens :alien: since they heard me saying we all have Alien numbers

Now it's just to get my car sold, then buy tickets and enter the USA!! :dancing:

So sorry for the delay. Hang in there.

  1. What were the questions?
  2. Did they look at any evidence she brought?
  3. Did you send a good quality robust I-130 package with some good evidence.
  4. How many visits did you make and for how long?
  5. When was the last time you saw each other?
  6. Are there red flags in your relationship?
  7. Was there a specific line of questioning the CO was stuck on?
  8. Does she have children from previous relationships?

1. They asked a lot of the usual questions for CR1 and other follow up questions based on the answers my wife gave.

a. Are you related to {Name} - This person happens to be my elder Brother. Based on her answer:

b. How are you related to {Name} - My elder brothers wife. They are distant cousins. Paternal grandfathers were brothers.

c. Were your fathers cousins just because they lived in the same house as kids or by blood? Wife explained the lineage as in 'b' above.

d. Where did you meet your husband?

e. When did you meet your husband?

f. How long have you known him?

g. When did your husband migrate to the USA?

h. Why didn't he marry you and add you to his DV lottery processing? Wife told her we weren't ready to get married.

i. Who was your husband living with when he migrated to the USA? Wife told her Uncle {Name}. CO asked for full name. Wife didn't know but she just mentioned my last name.

j. How many times has he visited you? Wife told her 5 times since 2010, gave her the timeline.

k. When was the last time you saw him? Wife told her I was present at the interview.

l. Was he around for childbirth? Yes

2. They looked at all the evidence. I sent in a new AOS and 2015 Tax Returns with W2. Our childs CRBA and passport etc. They gave us all the copies and kept the originals of the civil docs.

3. I-130 had all the good evidence as suggested on this forum. Photos, Joint Bank account statements, affidavits, marriage cert, wedding invitation, wedding program etc I can't even remember all of them off head.

4. Been to Ghana 5 times since 2010. None of the visits was for less than 3 weeks

5. I am currently in Ghana. Before this trip I was here in 2014 for our wedding, Back in May to comfort my sick and pregnant wife (lol), Back in October for baby's arrival.

6. So far as i am concerned, there shouldn't be any red flags. We got an RFE at USCIS stage concerning our marriage Cert. I believe they are used to the certs issued by the courts and not churches. Luckily, I was in Ghana so I went to the Registrar of marriages for a confirmation letter. I-130 was approved a day after they received the confirmation. Also, my elder brother's wife and my wife are distant cousins. It was actually through my elder brothers wife that we met initially. my brother's wife (together with my brother) have given her an invitation for B1/B2 before.

7. She seemed to have spent time on the relationship between my wife and elder brothers wife.

8. No previous relationships. Her only child is our child.

Wheew feels like I just finished writing my PhD Thesis lol

Hi,

I am sorry you got this dreaded 221(g). Don't be stressed out....I believe a little peek into the Ghana portal should shed some light on the reason(s) behind the 221(g) without request for additional docs.

Hang in there!

Thanks Amadia. Initially we had an RFE for our marriage Certificate and I had to take a letter of confirmation from the Registrar General of Marriages. My instincts tell me they want to verify the authenticity of that letter. Keeping our fingers crossed. We believe it'll be approved eventually. I was just hoping to return to the States with them (wife and daughter)

Team,

I just want to say THANK YOU ALL, always lurker, never poster but i have to share the happiness with you. We were approved today, mostly because this site prepared us from the beginning to the end. Paperwork, questions, etc. We brought like a million documents, "they can't say NO" was our battle cry. even the pictures were labeled (uncle XX with YY), hahaha, they required only 3 documents: marriage certificate, birth certificate (beneficiary) & police record all originals, because we submitted copies for the case initially (USCIS-NVC).

Questions were asked fast so you don't have time to think, around 15-20 questions in 5-6 minutes:

Where & how did you met?

Did you kept in contact from year XX to year XX?

How you kept the contact?

When did you meet again?

Why you decided to marry on XX year?

When did your wife moved to USA?

What does she do for living?

Where does she do that? (Name of company)

Do you have children in common?

Do you have children by your own?

Is the kid in the application?

Have you lived in other country?

What were you doing in this country?

How long you lived there?

Besides this place, have you LIVED in other country? (We had a little argument here between words living & travelling, because i (Natural Me, complicating what should be basic) said well i lived for 15 days at XX place but that was travelling, so consul fixed glasses and looked at me straight in the eyes, digging inside my brain, and then was more specific and asked about residence and not pleasure travelling. I think he thought i was trying to be smart*ss

Have you had a criminal case here in this country?

Have you had a criminal case in XX country?

Have you ever being petitioned by someone from the USA besides this time?

People i think i'm missing 3-4 questions, but that was the core of the case

Appointment lasted around 10 minutes but overall process took 2 hours... Checked CEAC site visa said AP at 11:30AM & at 2:00PM it said ISSUED

Good morning peeps!!

Congrats to all the approvals!! Those still waiting hang in there!!! :)

What Hell is AP??? Like someone said sometimes I just want to quit!!
We delivered all the documents they asked for in 221(g) (new originally signed I-864as) but the general feeling I got from the Embassy is they do not want to issue the Visas. I've had this feeling from the very beginning.
Unfortunately they can keep you in AP forever and a day if they want which is SO unfair when you have met all their criteria and there are no red flags etc.
We have vested so much (both us and my in laws) into this, that if it doesn't come through, I will lose my family. My husband cannot stay here, he needs urgent medical care in the US and I cannot cope alone with 3 small children. He will probably (for her own good) take our baby daughter with him...and I will be left with our two boys here, alone, broke and broken. I can't stand the thought of living without him. He is my one and it has been the greatest joy to have found him and known him and waking up next to him.
I am just SO low right now. I kept wanting to write here for the last few days but I didn't want to whine. However I do need a little pat on the back I think.
*sigh*

My heart goes out to the couples who are not together, through this hell called immigration. It needs nerves of steels and deep pockets!! (we have spent more than $6000 for 3 people doing this!!!)
I am trying to cling to a story, a word of encouragement, ANYTHING at this point. I am usually a very upbeat person but I also worry because my husband is the opposite of me.. he is like "all will be well" but you know what? If the visa is not granted all will NOT be well. Not in this country. Maybe if he had a job and insurance, yes, but is special needs. He has no job and no insurance :(
I do not want to loose my family but for their own better future I feel like I will or I should.

Sorry to vent, but you are the ONLY ones who can understand this. Again, THANK You for listening (or reading!!) to me.
Crossing fingers and toes this is all over soon with a positive result!!!

Click "spoiler" below for a detailed account of our journey to a CR1 visa via DCF in Athens, Greece.

* * DCF in Athens, Greece * *

28th January 2016 - Finally filed I-130s
29th June - ISSUED!!!!!!1st July - Visa packages and passports delivered to DHL.4th July - Visas in hand! CU in two weeks USA!!

Marrienne, AP also happens when they're printing the visas. Between Interview and issued, that's the status for each case. My students would tell you to chillax a bit ;-) You can worry when it takes a week or longer, but for now, do yourself and your family the favor and don't worry yet. It will all be good!
