I received an email from nvc that they are waiting to schedule my husbands visa interview. It's already in queue. My question is will I be receiving another letter stating if he will be needing additional paperwork? The only thing it mentioned in this email is that new police certificate will need to be obtained if it was more than a year ago. I've also heard from other people that a current marriage license is needed from less than 3 months from date of interview.

I got the same info as you did regarding the police certificate and also read about that 3 month period... I´m also wondering which is correct...

A "current marriage license" I don't understand. I've never heard of this. where exactly did you read this? can you reference it please. We only have our Marriage certificate. how does that expire? my husband's interview is tomorrow and we have not been contacted by the embassy or anyone else about needed anything current.

I've never heard this either - that's like having a current birth certificate. Maybe they mean "certified" marriage license?

PCC *does* need to be current - https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html :

Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

P.S. Best of luck to your hubby tomorrow, LinJoe!

I´ve heard that the police certificate has to be valid 3 months after arrival in the US. The marriage certificate for other countries I dont know, but here in Sweden we get it printed out from the Swedish Tax Agency when ever we need it and they notarize it. So here we actually dont have a marriage license that is valid for a longer time, that is all up to the reciever like NVC or embassy etc.

Yes, that's what I was thinking too. Husband's PCC expires in September so we're good on that. Marriage Certificate is the original from the municipality so we're good on that too.

Thank you! his interview is Friday morning (india time) which makes it tomorrow night for me. i'm already nervous.

oh ok. I haven't heard about the PCC needing to be valid for 3 months after POE either. I know it needs to be valid when it's interview time. Either way, we're good cause husband's was issued towards the end of September.

It's required to take the original documents to the interview. not sure when your interview is but try to get her to DHL express it to you if possible.

Looking forward to you. Now i will wait for the email. Hopefully no need of anything ??? but what is current marriage license. ??

Gargalmon it's just your marriage license with a more current date. I don't know why it makes a difference but that's what I've seen other people mention

I still have not received the interview date letter. I am looking on the Case Complete to Interview Date Spreadsheet and it seems like most people receive the interview date a week or two after the case completion date. Its now about 3 weeks for me since the case completion date.

Should I be worried? Is there anything I can say to NVC to look into this?

You can call them, but it probably just means they've booked up their allotted times. Most embassies schedule at the beginning and end of the month, so it may be another week or week and a half before you hear anything. Once you get your date, you can always request an earlier one from the consulate. Of course, whether you get it depends if they have a cancellation, etc.
