Hi All,

We have made it through the NOA-2 phase and waiting to hear from NVC so we cna make the interview appointment. Does anyone know if Johannesburg is the only location for the interview? There is an embassy in Durban, which is closer to where my finace lives, so was hoping that would be an option. Also the doctor appointment? There is one in JHB but we have come across other info saying perhaps Cape Town...it appears the embassy's website are not up to dat (surprise!) and am finding new information from real life circumstance..

Any one have experience with either of these scenarios in South Africa?

Thanks!

Hi All,

We just recieved our NOA-2 last week (May 23rd). I have called the NVC to see if anything has changed but nothign yet. As far as I understand, we wait for the NVC process to be complete, they send a letter to my fiance in South Africa and to myself, then we are able to make the appointment at the US Embassy correct? Anything durng this time we can be doing or contacting to speed up this process? When will we recieve his case number? Only after NVC is complete? The doctor appointment...can he make the appointment now without his case number or can we use the I129-f recipet number? Any advice?

You have to wait for the case number. You can call NVC to obtain it, usually takes a few weeks 1-603-334-0700. They do not mail the notice to the foregin fiance.

You may want to correct your profile information as is states you filed for naturalization.

If you update your profile information and list the country your threads could be directed to the South African country portal where others dealing with that same embassy can see it and respond. You can also read other threads there.

Your welcome. Yes I saw that! You should get some responses from others in South Africa now! I saw 2 medical facilites listed on the embassy info here.

Also, when calling NVC start early 7am or later evening seems to work better. You may have to keep trying repeatedly. I got through a couple times that way.

Good Luck!

Unfortunately you have to go to Johannesburg for the interview. We (my fiance came to the interview) had to fly up the morning, take the Gautrain to the Consulate and fly back the afternoon. I lived in Cape Town and had my medical done there as well. Take into consideration that the doctor has to courier your file to Jo'burg, they take couple of days to process it on receipt thereoff. Living in Durban just adds more and more expenses for you...in the end, all is worth it to be with your loved one.

I did my medical in Joburg as well as the Interview. Unfortunately Joburg is the only place they do the interviews. The medical facility is located in the mall opposite the US embassy. I also lived closer to Durban so I took a two week vacation to Joburg, had my medical done (They said to book your medical at least 10 days prior to the interview)

Best of Luck

Our petitions and documents finally got to the Joburg embassy but they said the earliest appointment for the consulate interview was not until October! We have been speaking to them for weeks and every time we were told that it wouldnt be that long of a wait. There has got to be a way to expedite the process a little...it has already been 8 months starting the process and not seeing each other.
