I have had my green card since last year and just now realized that I never got the "VALID FOR WORK WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" removed. I figured I'd have this form https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ss-5.pdf filled out at my local SSN office. I guess I'd have to mark down 'legal alien allowed to work', right? What evidence do I need to bring with me? Just my GC? Will I have to go back to the SSN office AGAIN next year once I apply for my 10 years GC?

There is absolutely no legal need for you to change your SS card.

Why bother getting it removed when your green card is the DHS authorization for you to work.

Your GC is sufficient for you to get it changed. Once removed, it's gone from your card so you don't have to worry about it again when you get your 10 years GC or when you naturalize.

If you want it removed, then yes, go to the SSA and fill out another application. You will update your status with them to that of a lawful permanent resident, and you will receive a new card(same number) without that stipulation printed on it. You only need to do it once as a permanent resident. If you become a USC, then you should update your status with them again.
