I just got married this weekend and I am in the process of filling out the rest of my paper work. A little overwelming to say the least~!

I have a few concerns:

- My marrage certificate is really weird looking because it doesn't have a seal or anything. We got marriage at Court. Is this o.k?

- Do I have to change my maiden name?

I'm sure that I will have more question's to come. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. My thanks in advance.

A court marriage is just as valid as a marriage in a place of worship.

As for changing your maiden name, I'm not sure because I changed mine when we filed for our marriage license. You don't want to change your name?

Most importantly, congratulations on your marriage and good luck! :)

For AOS purposes, you need a copy of a certified marriage certificate. Mine has a seal on it showing it's certified, and most do, so your first question I can't really answer.

As for the second, no you don't have to. I chose to - I like my husband's name, along with a few other reasons, but my maiden name is still part of me, etc etc - if you're concerned about it for AOS, changing or not changing your name doesn't prove the validity of your marriage. They look at the whole picture.

congratulations! When you were married at the court house, did they give you the certificate after it had been officially registered with the court? We hdid not get married in the court, but we had to take it back to the court to have it officially sealed and registerd. They gave us copies for $5 and it took about 15 minutes total.

and yes you can keep your maiden name!
