Do I have to change my maiden name?

One does not have to change their name, thats a personal decision!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Well, I got married this weekend, and I am now starting to fill out the rest of my forms. What I don't know, is whether I should use my maiden name? My 'husband' and I haven't decided whether or not I should change my name to his. Do I have too for the Visa?

You can leave the quotes off of husband ........yep it's really true YOU'RE MARRIED! No longer a theory.... nope not anymore .......takes awhile to get used to it I think ........sometimes I still look at my hubby and say " holy chit we're married!"

Flames...err Flames9 ......and I hate to say this "outloud".. is right :D......you dont have to BUT I would for immigration purposes. Just one more thing ( in my mind) we can do to strengthen the case for ligitimacy.

You have two years to change your name with a marriage certificate through the SSA. After that, I believe you'll need a court order.

What if I decide to change it down the road. Ex. if I have kids?

Sorry, it's not letting me edit: you don't need a court order, but you will have to provide additional documentation according to the SSA site. Exactly what this means, one cannot be sure. :blink:

You have two years to change your name with a marriage certificate through the SSA. After that, I believe you'll need a court order.
What if I decide to change it down the road. Ex. if I have kids?
