Visiting while pending

Hey all, really quick question but I'm sure someone knows and can help me. Me and my partner will be applying for the k1 visa but also wanted to book flights to see each other while this is all being processed. I am aware you can visit as long as the immigration officer doesn't think you will stay which is fine. My question is, is there any time limit for the paperwork or dates of interviews? I'm concerned that while I am in the US for a little while that everything will land on my doorstep and I will not be in the country. Will they throw it out after so long or anything like that? Or does it just wait until you do your bit? Thanks in advance everyone

It sits and waits for you to make the next move. Somebody UK recently got email from the embassy--

"note that it is not possible to keep an application on file indefinitely. You have until May 7, 2017, in which to apply for the visa. Failure to do so will result in the introduction of procedures to terminate your application.

If your petition expires while your application is ongoing, you may revalidate it with a letter from your fiancée stating you both remain legally free to marry and you will do so within 90 days of your arrival in the United States.'

Her petition was approved April 7, 2016 so appears to be about a year.
