From some online forums I read:

Some men assess the women potential by their willingness to offer to pay for dates.

If the women are still not 'opening their wallets (or even a gesture of offer to pay)" after third dates so on, they will write them off as gold diggers.

I was raised in a generation where women weren't really as prominent in the workforce as they are today, so that might have something to do with men feeling that way. But even to this day if I were to go on a date with a woman who had a decent job, I would pay. That's simply how I'm programmed.

This is why dating and relationships are so screwed up now. Folks have completely forgotten the way it's supposed to be. If you ask a woman out, you pay. It's that simple. If you can't afford it or don't want to spend the money, DON'T ASK HER OUT! I've seen men complain about how they asked a woman out and she got "upset" when he asked her to pick him up or pay for gas if he took her out.

And just to clear this up, a dinner and a movie does not = access to a woman's inner sanctum. You shouldn't feel obligated to do such a thing because a man paid for a night out. She decides if and when you get that privilege, not the man. If you want quick and easy, hit the street corners.

I had a paper route from 10yrs old til 14, also mowed lawns and shoveled driveways for extra money. Then I got other jobs that paid more money. Minimum wage was around $3hr back then.
