Evidence of relationship in filing the I751 form

Hello, We are 90 days out from the 2 year mark of my wife coming to USA. I am the US Citizen, she is the Conditional Resident. As we are filling out the I751 form we are preparing the various evidence of relationship. We have the joint bank account statements, Life insurance showing each other as beneficiaries, retirement accounts showing each other as beneficiaries, joint car insurance, and medical insurance statements showing she is covered under my policy from my employer etc. We see the section about getting at least 2 Affidavits from people who know us that will state that our marriage is legitimate. We really don't want to bother our friends by making them sign such documents. If we have all the other proofs...is that enough? Are those Affidavits really required?

Affidavits are not required.

How about adding wills and medical powers of attorney? Those are very good documents to have for ANY married couple! And they are very good to prove relationships!

Yeh - we didn't bother with affidavits or indeed photos. I reckon they're really only interested in solid evidence of financial co-mingling. Everything else is arguably circumstantial. I suspect they mostly look at solid financials such as joint bank accounts (over the 2 year period) , joint health insurance, mortgages and wills/poa/trusts etc.

Follow the good advice above. When I asked an attorney at the time, he said that affidavits are suggested only when other evidence is thin. Sukie has nailed it above.

What about joint tax returns, jont lease/mortgage doco's, joint utility bills etc? I dont see them listed in your original post!

You should definitely supply tax transcripts for the past two-three years. Even if you are "married filing separately".
